VIN decoder?

I am looking at a mercedes Cls as my next car, can you help me with a data sheet/decoding?
I don’t have the VIN but I do know the registration.....?

I'm looking at changing my car and for the first time in my life, buying a newer version of the same car. Am I right in thinking that the VIN can be found from the reg number? It's be nice to check that the information I'm being given is correct.

Ah. I've looked on google and everything I can find seems to not work any more. Various Warranty companies etc. that used to work don't seem to provide the VIN any more. Could you offer any advice?

Right I've got the VIN, but it seems to come back as a 2002, but it should be a 2015. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid...

Had my test drive and very happy but decided not to play with the technology and want to be sure of the spec I am getting as I am not sure the current owner has delved too far through the menus
