Bought this the other day to take on a trip to Le Mans next year.

Paid £225 with T & MOT, 68000 mls with all MOT's to prove, service history and 4 new tyres, but scruffy but rust free, all electrics work, just needs a centre section for the exhaust, new alternator belt and oil change.

Was just wondering if there's anytjing i chould be checking thats specific to this model before we undertake the trip.

I have a reasonable mechanical background but just not specifically with this marque.

All advice much appreciated

I think thats from when the previous owner was rear ended by a tank! ..... the tank came off worse. :wink:

The chrome wheel arches are an aftermarket add-on and may be concealing rust - have a look. Also check for rainwater leaks - soggy carpets etc - as this will rot your floor pan and inner seals.

Cracking motor mate, real bargain!

Check the ATF level and make sure it doesn't smell burnt or look discoloured (minging brown), may well be worth changing it (and filter) when you do your engine oil - if it hasn't been done recently.

I've just flushed the cooling system on my w123, a fair bit of crap came out and the car now runs a tad cooler, may be worth it before a big journey.

The only other things I'd say is check all the bungs on the floorpan and sills are still there (and check that the ones with drain holes aren't blocked), and lube the sunroof runners up. Most other things are just general service items, and if this one has been fully serviced are nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the advice gents.

I've just spoken to Merc about the VIN to try to find out a bit about the car and they have no record of it! Thats a little worrying but end of the day it was £200 so who cares.

Also, anyone know where the engine number is on the old girl as i need this to get oil filter apparently as there was a change before and after certain engine numbers.

The VIN doesn't match the one in the service book, which again, is a little worrying someone has replaced the service book with one from another car......

The chassis number on our car ends 584

The one in the service book ends 554 and says colour silver blue 930

I can only think the car is called silver platignum or something and the blue is the interior. Not sure what the 930 means though.
