I've been told by several experts now that the reason my gearbox won't go into reverse when cold (after a few mins warming up its fine) is due to worn seals in the hydraulic valves.

Does anyone have a 'general arrangement' drawing, or an exploded view of the gearbox so I can't see where these are and how to get at them and repair them? Does anyone have any experience of this job? I'm assuming they are in the valve body. A few threads I've read say that this can be accessed through the sump, but I've also heard that the box has to come out.

It's the 5 speed mechanical box: 722501

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give.

Hey, did you ever get anywhere with this?

My 300TE-24 with the exact same 5 speed all mechanical box is doing the same thing. It feels like a seal type issue as the box is smooth and will eventually engage reverse after a gentle rev of the engine, as if that raises the pump speed slightly. All 5 forward gears are spot on.

I'd be interested to know what you found out - or has anyone else had this?

cheers Al
