Hi all,

I've been experiencing problems with my W124 220 convertible. There is no kickdown and once moving it will not even drop down a gear when going up hills etc. My garage has had it for some time and has checked:

Air flow meter
Solenoid in gearbox
kickdown cable
Relay switch (for kickdown/air-con)
Gear linkage

Still, the problem persists. I'm now told that the next options are to either change the gearbox or valve unit.

Has anyone experienced similar problems and shed any light on this for me.

Thanks in advance!!

hi david i have same car as you and fortunately it works fine couple of questions has this always been the case or did it work and then stop working? in mine you have to bury the accelerator into the carpet so i am assuming that it is not a tecnique problem and that all the professional help you have had they also cannot get it to kick down?
