Hi all, posted the query in the intro section but adding it here in case anyone with w124 experience sees it. On the above car the central locking and windows suddenly went - started with windows randomly winding themselves down when parked; it has ended with no central locking working, windows having to be disconnected electrically, and the fuse that covers rear windows, seatbelt warning etc blowing - and a smell of burning in the cabin suggesting a short circuit. PO took out a couple of fuses it seems; door panels have been off before; sunroof not working (mechanically or electrically) and the fuse for that has been taken out too. Can anyone advise a process of elimination for diagnosis please? (one person suggested the comfort module is at fault, but also that a lot of things run through that and they could all be culprits.)

I think it will be the comfort module, that last few have bought one from a breaker with good results.

W124 locking/comfort module - follow-up

This may or may not be relevant, but does anyone know if it might explain electrics issues? The car failed its MOT partly because there were 2 random but level-in-position holes in the floor pan, one each side, too close to jacking points for the tester's taste. Since the welding was done to get it through the MOT water has collected and is now soaking up through the carpets. Is it a possibility that a) some PO had drilled holes as a lazy but effective solution to water retention and that b) the water might have seeped up and shorted something connected to comfort module (fuses for rear door locks etc just blow immediately now.) all info gratefully received.
