I know I shouldn't do this but someone's just offered me a one owner late 95 W124 E300 (non turbo) diesel estate with leather, electric sunshine roof, heated seats, cruise, with 68,000 miles and FSH. Dark blue with black int.
I love these cars to bits but think the guy's asking too much.
Can anyone help/give me an idea or as ever is it just worth what I think/can afford? They're obviosuly now quite rare in this condition. Thanks for any advice.

Blimey telletubby thats as rare as hens teeth with those goodies, and if thats not still going in another ten years i'll eat me hat. If you can get that for less than 5 grand you are doing well, tell someone with another make of that sort of pricing and they'll think you mad but if you are prepared to keep it long term you will have one of the best reliable estates ever built...are you going to tell us the asking price?

yeah well, Juddian - that's the problem 'cos the guy wants 7k (10k euros)which I think is a bit steep but then again, where will I ever find another one with that spec and in that nick?

Nice car, certainly a rarity.

I would imagine the French don't mind haggling (I love it) so offer 6K as a starting point and go on from there. I'm sure there will be somei tems that are coming up for replacement or a service is perhaps due so pointing those out will help.

I don't know how fond the French are on Mercs so it may not sell as well over there.

Good Luck!

I still have fond memories of my 124, but, 7K moves you into 300TD and 320CDi territory.

Well Mercs are quite popular here in France, though of course I think they'd prefer them if they had a Renault or Peugeot badge on them but the real problem certainly down here in the south is the auto box. Down here the chaps are far too macho to be seen in an automatic even though I've pointed out that MB forgot how to make a decent manual box twenty odd years ago.

The guy who's selling this W124 bought it from a client but can't get on with the gearbox. I mean, really!

Telletubby do let us know if he manages to sell for that kind of money, you could have a fleet of French(or any other) cars for that price for a 11 year old car, don't know about you but i am very reluctant to come away from the 124's. My sister who knows far too many long words says i'm a luddite but i'm like a cow with a gun trying to get to grips with new cars.

Will do. I've said i'll come and see him in january so if he finds another sucker in the meantime so be it............ and if not we'll talk. Gotta be right? But anyway even a Luddite can't break a good W124!
