W124 estate luggage cover

Hi all - I have a silly problem: the spring in the luggage cover on my W124 estate has gone and it won't retract. Can anyone help? Should I just buy a replacement or can it be fixed?

I have just posted a thread on the same problem, but on my 1999 E 320 estate. Mine retracts partially. So can only sympathise but not help. Of you get an answer and which is not "replace" wld appreciate a call. 01179099036

These are fiddly things and not made to be repaired the ends break off the springs, some do take them apart to fix, but again not easy.

Maybe a member will come on that has managed to fix one

Pulled the end of mine taking it out to fit son's clobber for university.

UPDATE... the locating peg wasnt going up when the button was pressed, so i did get the whole thing out, all the bits fell out the plastic end cover when i took it off, but heres the problem now, the load cover is under tension, the cover came off and ZZZZZZZZZZZ the spring unloaded

i cant work out how to tension the spring to refit the plastic end cover...
