I'm moving from the Guildford (Surrey) area to the Great Malvern (Worcs) area and will need to find a garage in the new location that's as good as the one I currently use. I want somewhere that genuinely knows about the W124 range (mine is a 1995 E280 estate, 157k) and knows how to locate and deal with the problems that can arise as well as routine servicing. (My current garage is owned by a W124 specialist who sometimes seems to know more about the W124 than Mercedes themselves.) Any suggestions will be very welcome: thanks!

You could try ACMS Mercedes in Walsall if that's not too far away. They get very busy so give them lots of notice. They have a good guy there who knows lots about the older models but he only works part time now.

Thanks for this, but at ~40 miles Walsall is a bit too far to travel. Is anybody else able to offer some suggestions, please? - I need to get the gas struts for the tailgate replaced and I'm not sure my DIY skills are sufficient for the task (or is this easier than it appears?).

EmilysGrandad used SGS a few years back for gas struts for the tailgate of his then Granada estate. In essence they were generic struts that needed one end modifying to suit. I made a thread 'insert' to allow an M8 bolt to screw into an M10 hole instead.

To give SGS their due, even though it was a couple of yrs back, I can't see that many people still need stuff for a 1983 Granada ;)
