    hey all,

The left front water drain pipe (the one that takes the water from the windscreen drain to the bottom of the car just behind the front left wheel) is blocked. It is blocked at the bottom and therefore can't be unblocked by coathanger/wire etc...and i can't see where the drain hole comes under the car (it dribbles out by a plastic trim piece bolted on) so can't unblock it from underneath.

Is it acceptable to use standard drain unblocking liquids i've used successfully on normal plug holes/showers, etc with good results or is there a better/more successful way to unblock it?

    TIA, Ben

It exits horizontally between the body and the plastics inner wing liner, above and behind the tyre.
Bang in the centre of the 1st pic, where the horizontal box meets the liner you can see a gap, it exits towards the middle of the car, 2nd pic from inner wing side.
    Left hand side shown.

BTW how did you get that inside photo...fiddly work but using quadruple wound bellwire as a "scoop" to get out all the dirt from where the drainhole goes into the wing finally worked and the drain is good as new.

    Thanks again for the help!

    Small camera and thin arm.
I set my camera to macro and shoved it as far into the inner wing as I could, it surprised me that it worked.

Thanks for coming back and telling us how you got on.

Do check the other two scuttle drains for debris in their ends, one exits above the gearbox its end is a flattened affair to stop mucky air climbing back up it, massage it with water being poured into the heater intake, and while you are at it, there are two drains each side under the sills for the sun roof to check, one front one back, there are also three for the boot, one in the wheel well and one on each side compartment, all these seven have a round grommet with a tube poking out of it, up the tube is a diaphragm with 3 small holes that stops muck climbing up the tube, mud collects in the end and blocks them, mind you don't tear the rubber or peel the underseal from their periphery.
Not regularly clearing the drains might get you a rust hole in the boot floor or in the steel sun roof tray in the roof lining.

Thanks for the further info...are all those drains correct for the estate too...i've poured water everywhere and it seems the water off the rear roof is just channelled round the tailgate and out above the bumper, then there's one for the fuel cap filler, two for the sunroof and the two either side of the windscreen...all those work now but haven't checked the heater intake one....is that the grill just below the wiper? and then that should come out above the gearbox as you say?

It is indeed, not very easy to see it but it hangs along the upper surface of the transmission tunnel, a pants leg affair with an exit either side about 3 inches in and at ten o'clock and two o'clock above and to the side of the tranny, with an outstretched arm and the bonnet up fully vertical you can reach it. Any collected leaf debris will compost in the bottom of the drain hose and glue the flattened exit up, it needs an occasional squeeze to make sure its not stuck.

Picture taken LHS looking backwards from top of starter motor, its that strange shaped thing in the middle you're after squeezing.

There are four drains on the sun roof one from each corner of the tray, on the saloon they exit near the jacking pads under the car, not sure about the tourer but the front ones will be the same.

Hello, I have a 200 TD W124 Estate and I noticed I have water on the floor in the drivers side both front and back, the eater seems to be more ate back then the front.
I have already clean the windscreen drains and I dont have sunroof, but the other drains I will try tomorrow but the water seems to come from the back of the car or the side pilar, do you have any idea what my problem could be? I'm getting serioslly woried about this because I'm afraid o end up with a pile of rust

    Thank you

    Hi Malcolm

Do you have the papers for the water drains for a 2003 SLK (R170)?

Not one issued for this,,, you just have the drains in front of the front screen and the heater box drain.
