W169 A Class Wiper Mechanism inspection/removal

There seems to be quite an amount of play at the wiper spindles where they protrude through the black plastic scuttle panel on my car.

Has anyone removed this scuttle or replaced the wiper mechanism and can give me any tips

I've done the rear one removal and replacement, including taking off a seized nut, when Mercedes said the only way to fix the problem was to replace the whole rear wiper motor ...

There are two parts to the wiper mechanism. The drive and the linkages. Nothing is adjustable so any excessive play likely means a new module.

As to scuttle removal, I’m not sure but it’s likely not an easy job.
