Hi, I wonder if this forums vast array of knowledge can help with this one.

I am one of these weird people who likes their car stereo to sound good. I currently have the standard Mercedes factory fit Special Single cd head unit in my car. This is ok, but I feel it is a little lacking.

What i'm interested in is retro fitting the bose sound system into the car that would normally have been done at the factory.

Has anyone done this before and if yes, how difficult is it? More to the point, has anyone heard the bose sound system in the w202 and would I be wasting my time with the quest to keep my car as original as possible and getting an alpine/dynaudio system as I through about before.

Feedback would be much appreciated.

I may be wrong, but you might be able to get a just as good, or even better system for a lot less money if you went for an after market option. Get a decent Kenwood or similer head unit with tape & 6 CD changer in the boot, 4 or 6 top quality speakers, maybe an amp. Have it professionally fitted and bobs your uncle, and excellent sounding system for less cash. I know Bose products are good, but you tend to pay so much more for them. Ive got a Kenwood CD head unit, 2 Kenwood 6x9's on the back shelf, and sony custom fit speakers in place of the old ones in the dashboard. The sound is excellent, and it all blends in very well.

The Bose factory system works with optical connects so you'd need to change a lot of stuff to put the exact system in - not heard it yet 'cos my car's been delayed; but its not to everyone's taste - Checkout

(put Bose in the search engine for the threads)
Matt's advice is definitely how I'd go, just have a personal preference for Pioneer systems, and a 12 CD changer will fit in the well on the right in the boot in a W202, takes no usable space.

considering the many problems mb are having with their sound systems I would not entertain the bose system, yes it sounds good, but not outstanding!

See your local ICE specialist, but work out a budget first.
as to the make, there is virtually no difference in quality between these leading makes.
My personal choice is kenwood with mask system, but thats cos I'm too lazy to take ther facia out each time!!

best value for money/ quality= sony
best quality / value for money = alpine
allways use amps when funds are not a problem.
american amps = best quality
jap amps = best value.
all the above is my personal opinion!
at the end of the day its your money, you must purchase what you will still be happy with this time next year.

Thanks all for the imput to this . I have been looking about and i think im going to replace my mercedes benz speaial ( alpine ) with a lovely becker mexico pro cd  head unit to keep my car looking original inside . As for the speakers , im still considering the options suggested in here. But , im sure somthing will happen and my piggy bank will have to be raided before i get round to this system. :-(
