Hi guys, my W202 is going into WG-MB tomorrow for a fair amount of work (more preventative maintenance than required work) onthe cooling system, Water pump ('Stat was done in Dec 13), coolant change, new Viscous coupling, tensioners and other misc bits and bobs.
Coupled with all the work which has already been done (£2K+ worth since car was taken under my wing in Oct 13), means hopefully I now have a very solid foundation for a possible small power hike.

I've heard the box in my 202, the 722.6 is a strong box, fluid was changed back in Jan '14 by WG-MB so that's all running fine, and hopefully, can handle what I want to ask.

What I am after is torque. Low down and mid range. I'm not too fussed about HP, but more torque would be nice, even if it's just 40-50lb/ft, it's enough to make a difference.

How would I go about achieving this...? I have a work colleague who has a Turbo from an E300TD which I assume is larger, however I don't want the lag, my C250TD runs well and doesn't have a lot of lag surprisingly but i'd put that down to 4k oil, oil filter and air filter change intervals and keeping her on top of any issues which might arise.

Any input is appreciated, thank you...!

H ;)

simplest way to get roughly 25HP more is to have the ecu rechipped, on these vehicles this entails removing it and then having another chip soldered in.

I had mine done 3 years ago now by Simon Coe of CCC Tech, give him a call for a chat he,ll give you all the ins and outs

nice chap and well recommended, there arent many people around that do these older cars now

apart from the above, you can block off the EGR, and remove the guts from the cat, lag is an issue with these cars, chipping will help ,a turbo specialist should be able to specify the best type to suit your needs

these chaps are seriously into 605/606 modification but most go for power higher in the rev range than daily drivers

Evening there mate, I see you have a W202 OM605 yourself, regarding EGR, what are the actual benefits from your perspective, seeing as you have the same car and engine...?

With regards to gutting the CAT, I did plan to but I wasn't sure what the consequences would be because I know the car needs some sort of back pressure to retain torque...or is the back box enough? My exhaust from CAT back was fitted in October last year so reasonably new so could provide the back pressure I guess... :?:

Lastly...how has the Tune been in terms of running, reliability and useability...?

Thank you...! :grin::cool:

- Harry.

blocking the EGR allows fresh air to enter the engine at all times and greatly reduces the build up of that gritty sludge in the intake system, my other issue with the EGr setup is the heat generated in the aluminium housing ...seems little point in cooling the air thru the intercooler only to pass it back through a red hot EGR housing, in my mind it ideally needs removing aswell

Most performance tuning involves decatting

having the ecu chipped causes no concerns whatsoever ,my car,s manual so cant really give you comparisons as most are auto, but obviously its quicker

These cars are already thirsty as it is, what effect on fuel consumption and acceleration from 0 till about 40 as thats the range they tend to struggle

really? thats odd because the one i had, also a manual, but with the standard diff, so 70mph at around 3k rpm used to AVERAGE 40mpg, and ive always been kinda handy with the lead filled right boot! once on boost it would match any C220 cdi i ever came across (im going back 10+ years though) and driven sensibly on the motorway at legal speeds, it would get not far shy of 50mpg!

now the E300 turbodiesel, THAT was thirsty!even at 70mph MAXi never bettered 39.2mpg, and if i drove it hard, i could see the needle drop at an alarming rate (width of the needle drop in around 5 miles!!!!) to the point where i estimated that, at full blast, it would have probably emptied a full tank in 100 miles, or not much over!

I normally put £20 for the commute to work and back and that gives me 100 miles on average before the light comes on. Working it out that gives me 28mpg. If you guys were getting 40mpg. Now i am really worried  Mine is an auto btw though i wouldnt expect a massive difference in figures

What should be looking out for. I changed fuel filter last year and car drives fine? Maybe auto fluid level?
