I have written to MB about the cigar lighter being not fit for purpose. The centre positive contacts are so close to the negative plate that when it gets a little hot due to using sat-nav etc, the insulation warms up and due to the pressure from the centre rivet, holding it all together, draws the 2 contacts together and blows the fuse. I sent them fully photographed script and they wrote back saying that this would have come to light a while back if it was a problem.

I would urge everyone not to use the cigar lighter socket for extended periods of time to prevent heating it up.

I replaced mine and thought I would show pictures of how to get at it, as there isn't much to go on if anyone else has this problem.

Slide open Centre console compartment lid.

Remove cup holder insert then prise out the side coin holder, this can be difficult, but start at the rear end and pull upwards and towards the centre.

Pull the back liner forward. It is hidden under the compartment lid.

Pull the forward edge backwards

Grasp the forward and rear edges of the insert and lift up.

Depress the two small plastic clips and slide the metal part out, through the clear plastic part.
