Hi

The MOT station has told me that "the exhaust clamp between the two boxes is corroded and needs replacing" but they think that it is a specialist MB clamp, due to the shape of it. They do not want to remove it and then find that their standard clamp does not fit.

Can anyone please tell me:
1) the correct description of this part;
2) is it different for a C270 as opposed to a C220?;
3) the part number;
4) a mail-order supplier that can supply this.

All replies would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
:smile:

Malcolm, thank you very much indeed. This is very helpful. :D
I have found the following:
http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/1142634
Would you like to hazard a guess - is this the part numbered 230 on the diagram?
Thank you again.

Malcolm, thank you again for your assistance. I ordered the part from Germany (Bestpartstore Johannes Rau), it was delivered quickly and it was a perfect replacement.:D

Good work (from the dealership in G/m, I assume):) That's less than I paid just for the clamp. P&P was extra. The old clamp was badly corroded.:(

Hello

I have w203 C200CDI (same OM611 engine than OP here) and today it lost ~75% of the power and the car develops loud "wshuuh" type of sound underneath the car when accelerating.

I checked the exhaust and found out the area around the part 230 (clamp) looks like crap. First I thought the pipe was rusty and had a hole but seems these 2 pipes go inside of each other and then secured by the clamp or what kind of connection they have? Cant see any flanges either

I took some pictures and hope somebody could give advice. So I might just need a new clamp and not any welding? Dealer would happily offer me new exhaust + rear catalytic converter for ~600 pounds

Picture number #2 shows how bad that clamp area looks, very bad cracks. Click pics for hi-res version

The clamp does indeed look like it could do with replacement, but it is not going to be losing you 75% of your engine output. I'd have a look further towards the front of the exhaust for soot and evidence of blowing at the spring clamp nearer the front. It's common for the catalyst to block and pressure to open the spring clamp before it. This will lose you about 75% of your power.

Hey

You are right sir, had the dealer check my car and both cats are blocked + the clamp also bad for rear exhaust.

The price for doing this by the book 2500eur ~ 2020 pounds (2 new cats + exhaust) but they do the "unofficial" fix by torching the cats open and clean them for 500eur ~ 400pounds.
