Same old problem - Cracked Speaker cover

Hi Folks

I have just joined the forum as my wife has just bought our 1st Mercedes C180K - 06 plate with 12,500 miles on the clock, and I noticed that the speaker grill as shown in the post above has been cracked with a large hole in the speaker cover.

I see by other threads that this can be fixed by owners with a wee bit of knowledge.

Could some one send me the details of how to remove the door card etc.

My e-mail address is p.wallswalls@btinternet.com

I will also be posting a query on how to get the phone system to work with modern day android phones?

Pete

I have just traded in my w203 Saloon for a w203 CLC and have noticed that my drivers door speaker is damaged I the same place and has been replaced under warranty.
I have a tool for the small button which is attached to the seat belt to stop the seat belt buckle sliding down, I will try out a mod by moving the button up a few inches so that the buckle does not drop down low enough to damage the speaker again.
The buttons are 4 pound each from Mercedes and this is what I have got from Ebay and for that price it is a lot cheaper than to keep buying speaker covers.

Reinstall in reverse order. An extra hand is helpful but not absolutely necessary.
Make sure the door cable sits correctly in the holder or the handle will protrude.
Notes on speaker grills- to remove- Use a drill to drill out the melted plastic pins.
Place new grill in. Melt the plastic pins to hold it in place (why didn’t they just use screws?).
I’m, not sure if it’s absolutely necessary to melt them, but I think they may protrude to much if they
aren’t flush.
I heated up an old kitchen knife on the stove and used that to melt the pins. One came undone
when I had to pull the panel off to fix the placement of the cable, and I spent another hour
sourcing some glue dammit.
And as always, make sure the key is out to avoid any possibility of generating any SRS errors.

Phoned the local MB dealer today, they carry the part in stock. :D The guys knew exactly what I needed as it's a very common problem. Total cost of part was about £14. :D

Bought a Torx screw-driver set as I didn't have one.

Followed the instructions to remove the door card. Drilled the heads of melted plastic to remove the old speaker cover. Then used a solder gun to melt the plastic to seal the new cover in place. The smoke of that plastic is nasty stuff.

Reinstalled the door card.

Whole job took about 20 mins.

Very happy, thanks for the help Malcolm. :D:D:D
