Can anyone help please?
I have just bought my first Mercedes, a 2011 W204 250 C Class Estate (Facelift model) with7 speed auto box. I have had it about 3 months and sometimes I find that the when slowing and stopping that when I pull away again that the auto box has swapped into Manual mode on its own.
I had thought for a long time that I must have been nudging the gear change, the button or the paddle shifts but I am sure now that I am not.
Has anyone else had this or know of this fault please?
It’s still under a warranty but it’s impossible to demonstrate easily an intermittent fault. Any ideas to prove the fault please?
Thanks
Chris

Do you mean that when you pull away you see a number rather than "D" for the gear indication?

Thanks for your message.

Yes the dash has changed to numbers and is then stuck in that gear.

you pull away and the engine revs into the red as its stuck in the gear, usually 2nd.

Thanks both for your responses.

Yes the dash shows the gear number not D, and when you pull away the car stays in gear and revs to the red until you keep the paddle or gear shift held on.

Thanks Chris

Cant help but think its a selector issue of some kind. Unless the tip tronic is being knocked or the button is pushed to select manual mode I dont see how any electronic glitch would automatically select manual mode. The command comes from the selector/switch directly to the ECU. The gearbox itself cannot command it.

Best get it on STAR.

STAR is the name of the diagnostics machine which Mercedes use to check for faults. :)
