Hello everyone.
My name is Chris and I'm new on the mb owners forum. I'm 26 and from Northern Ireland.
I came here hoping to find a solution to an issue I'm having from some knowledgeable individuals!
The issue I'm having is with my 2009 C Class C180 (M271). It is an electrical issue and with any electrical issue take abit of explaining so I hope you can bare with me.
The issue arose first during normal journey, first on my dashboard “esp inoperable/cruise control inoperable” with the yellow explanation mark lit up (usually indicating Esp had been turned off)
On my next journey in the dark the issue became more serious.
The dashboard displayed the same messages, yellow indicator on, handbrake light, engine management, low fuel indicator, power steering. In short the whole dashboard lit up with a range of colours.
Window wipes would work intermittently, as would indicators and steering would become heavy at low speed. Speedometer, rev counter,and fuel gauge would also fail intermittently. After I got home and turned the car off the battery remained flat.
Next day there was just enough juice left to get it started and to an MB specialist located just a mile from me.
Upon arrival and the bonnet being open with the engine off we could hear clicks coming from what turned out to be the SAM and a more central location in the engine bay (mechanic said the ecu) one after the other.
Since this I have bought a replacement Sam unit which didn't appear to fix the problem. A month has passed since the car arrived at the garage.
The mechanic has suggested an ecu. He's hoping to get a hold of one to try it out first although this is proving to take a long time.
I'm wanting to know anyone thoughts on the possible issue, is it worth buying the ecu, do I need just an ecu or an ecu kit and what model number specifically?
Also there seems to be a great variation in prices. Does anyone know why?
