I have a similar issue, but that occurs only with speed above 100 km/h , approx. 62 miles/h. If stay under that limit, no problems.

I've just had my esp replaced and my cruisecontrol isn't even showing up when I move the stick, also steering is a bit heavy. Steering angle sensor?

I had exactly the same issue. It was caused by old/broken steel brake pipes. After I changed all brake pipes, cruise control and speedtronic works fine again.

How on earth do brake pipes affect cruise?

Am I correct that the steering angle reset is a series of turns and driving striaght and not turning steering wheel more than 180 .degrees ?
If so I have that procedure somewhere, it worked on my w163. If it will help I will dig it out.

Yes thats it. On some cars (Smarts for example) it needs STAR connected to do this.

Flabbergasted, never has my gasted been so flabbered !!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKED
After 10 days of driving with the ABS light on, and it was unable to be reset by scanner, just kept coming back on, after a lot of research on line, found the drive test process. I did it just once, light went out at end of test, driven about 20 miles since, stopped and restarted about 10 times, still not come back on, so fingers crossed, resolved. In case any other member has same issue, here is the process copied from a STAR document.

using scanner, ensure there are no uncleared fault codes, and only the "road test" fault is present, end diagnostic and disconnect scanner.

Road Test
1. Switch off ignition
2. Start engine
3. press ESP off switch, ESP warning light and BAS/ESP light will come on, ESP will now be switched off
Note. The road test must be conducted with-in 15 seconds
4. Drive the vehicle forward at approximately 6-10 mph (must keep constant speed)
5. After a short distance (few yards) turn the vehicle left and then right. The steering wheel should be turned between 90 and 180 degrees.
6. with in 10 seconds begin turning a quarter circle and then briefly steer in the other direction.

The lights will go out if successful. If not repeat process from 1. Its important not to turn steering wheel more than 180 degrees, I marked the top with a bit of masking tape so I knew where it was all the time. You must also keep to the correct speed.

It worked for me, I hope it may help someone else out.

Above is what i did to cure a steering angle sensor fault back in October last year, the lights have never come back on (now i have said that i bet they do !!!!)

Do you think this will work on a 2003 A209 CLK ? I replaced the indicator stalk on it at the weekend and while putting the steering angle sensor back on, I inadvertently put it in 360 degrees to the right. Only after replacing the steering wheel, airbag etc, then checking the setup did I see what I'd done. It's only a fifteen minute job to rotate it a turn to the left and set it right, but we're going to be really busy over the next three or four weeks and won't have the time.

At the moment, it has initialised and is working OK, but it will log an overflow fault and suspend the Cruise and ESP if it goes onto full lock on the right. I'll give it a try and let you know.

I do not know, before doing the test i used an MB2 scanner to activate steering angle reset, which is part of the scanners process, i do not know if it will just work without requesting the reset, but worth a try. I did it early morning in the village hall car park, its important to keep the speed right and not turn steering wheel over 180 degrees

Be careful it doesn't over stress the clock spring inside the steering angle sensor. If that happens it's new sensor time.

Thanks LK! I know that story. I had a play with a damaged sensor that I rejected in the scrappy. It will go a full three turns right and left and it is only a turn and a half onto full lock either side. Add the full turn error and I have half a turn in reserve. They don't make that part anymore and the Merc Dealer came back and said he had one on back order for 18 months after Germany had scoured parts departments across the world for one.

If the scrappy or eBay runs out of 209's I will have to scrap the car.

Hi, I have the exact same issue with my W204 C220, how did this get fixed?

I have replaced the Brake Light Switch and had the code reset - no luck.
Tyres all correct sizes.

I have taken it to a few garages but no luck :(

Thanks in Advance

Go to an an MB Indy to get the codes read and the fault correctly diagnosed and fixed.

Where are you based, what garages have you used so far.

Oh and welcome to the forum. Do stick around!

I am in Northampton and been to a couple garages round here, they have put it on their "machine readers" that where they saw the Brake light switch needs to be replaced and i think he used a MB 2 Scanner. They said i would need a STAR diagnostic or take it to Mercedes as nothing else is being picked up on the scanner.

Welwyn Merx in Welwyn Garden City or Mercman in Nuneaton are the closest MB indies. There is one in Rushden but he is mechanical only- no electronics.

Welwyn Merx are fully booked up until the end of the month, ask me how I know!
