W210 E300 TD Water Pump failure

The AA man said he'd never seen anything like it the Fan blade got stuck in the Rad and cracked the water pump and the part that the water pump is bolted onto .

does anyone know how easy it is to remove this part as well as the water pump, special tools needed ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks for the diagram, its these parts that have failed, the water pump has cracked and the crack runs through the part directly behind it. Hence I'm wondering how hard is it to get that out !

Engine mountings appear ok, on reflection the water pump went first which drenched the alternator that meant the fan was wobbling all over and must have wedged into the rad, the alternator pulley then flew off and around the engine bay.

Apologies for the lack of correct terminology !

thanks based on the diagram i got part 5 from Mercman for £30 but cos the crakk runs through the piece behind the pump as well I need to order that too... is this ebay link to part 47 ?

Nope,,that is just the pump part, not 47

I had the fan belt fly off on the motorway. Big mess.

Either the water pump had seized or the idler pulley had broken.

Upshot was new water pump, idler pulley, mains oil seal, hoses and fan belt.

The whole lot was one day in the garage and not scary money neither.

I believe its the thermostat housing, and yes it was a matter of a few bolts and tap tap off it came, had to get the alternator out of the way first.

Off to find a new gasket for the spare. Anyone know where I can get a cheap gasket (part 125) ?
