W210 E320 cdi bizzare cutting out fault.

When you had it in your hands surely your first thought was, why is it so expensive ?

Front step...I certainly did, I can only say I'm glad
I paid £48.50 rather than £119.40.

However my feeling of self satisfaction dulled the pain of the £48.50 for a piece of plastic, I will say it wasn't the easiest of items to get your hand (and Torx) onto.

And the red herring of me nearly hauling the fuel tank out would not have taken under 15 mins!

Although I'm feeling elated, I haven't tested the car properly yet.

Hi, I think I also have the same problem with an E class 220 CDI estate 2005 I hav have just bought......it cut out on the journey from the dealer to my house.....I thought I may have run it out of diesel and was lucky enough to coast into a service station when it happened. Stuck £30 of diesel in then it started fine and done 30 miles with no problems since....but....I have this nagging doubt!

^ It's possible your crank sensor is going bad, but you usually have to wait for the engine to cool down before it will restart.

If you feel confident doing the job yourself, it might pay to get a sensor and keep it in the glovebox along with an 8mm torx bit and wrench just in case.
