No, thin plastic. Just as bad.

The local dealer to me will no longer take any Mercs in with Artico, as when it goes a couple of months down the road the customer, rightly so, expects it to be repaired.

What with SBC and seats that fall apart, not looking good is it, I do not blame him

I have 2009 (90K) W212, my drivers seat just split. Lee at Mercedes Loughton said "not the first one I've seen". However, Mercedes not prepared to do anything about it.
Must be design fault!

w204 ripped Artico driver seat

Peter's correct - mine was £100 and they removed the seat and replaced the offending panel - including matching the stitching.

Hi where did you get the seat repaired. :D

Hello and welcome, I would do a google search for a car trimmer in your area, there are many around that can work wonders.

Had a W203 estate for 3 years, 19k to 90k and the Artico looked as good as new. When I purchased my E Class last year I was pleased it had Artico, now I'm not so sure. Bean counters back at Mercs again?

Had this same problem on my old W211 with part-Artico, part-cloth after about 60k miles. Visited a local car trimmer and had the panel replaced and re-stitched (cover comes off the seat) and also had a bit of extra foam added to the base cushion to make it more comfy.
Under £100 all in. Very happy with that.
Cloth parts of the seats were unmarked at the same mileage.
This was in Southampton but as others have posted there are plenty of companies doing this work.
Agree that it is a shame that these cars need this work at a relatively young age, but not a bit fix compared with other running costs and does make the interior look nice again.

My W212 has just "developed" a small split (about 2 cm long) on the right hand side squab of the drivers seat. I intend putting a small repair patch over it for the time being while I look for a car trimmer in the Ashford/Kent area. Disappointing, but there's clearly a problem with Artico. I'm surprised at just how thin the Artico is (almost flimsy).

Developer can you please let me know who I can go to for my artico driver's seat base repair? Mercedes are preparing me a quote and I bet that will be a ridiculous amount and I am loathed to give them any money for their own product failure!!!! Would love to know where you went for your repair! Thanks so much.

Hi, my 3month old A class has just gone exactly the same, dealer refused to fix under warranty claims damage was self inflicted, cost of new seat cover on my A Class amg line about £400, joke......Crappy spray-on plastic straight on to foam.

Mine has the same problem on the drivers seat right leg bolster only, and was quoted £160 for genuine new cover from retailer and the same price for an upholsterer to repair.

These are the before & after of my driver's seat. £100 repair & they removed and replaced it less than 24 hours later.

Quite common on Artico trimmed seats.
I have this with my 05 CLK. what’s happen to MB quality? My Ponton still has original seats, some stitching has come undone and sagged a bit.

Brand new 25k merc amg line A Class with crappy seats, now passed onto motor ombudsman for arbitration, if no joy here Im off to the small claims courts. Will try to keep you all in the loop .

I'm surprised they can get away with calling it leather when it's synthetic.
I'm surprised the trade description act hasn't been brought into this.

I am thinking in a secondhand leather interior including door cards, seem to sell for around £300 upwards.
