My 2007 320CDi is due a gearbox oil change (65k miles).

The job looks DIY apart from the refilling process, hence I want to get it done by a professional.

Does a cost of £250 plus VAT all in sound right? Strikes me as a lot for what is a simple process.

    Any advice?

If that's a a quote by MB it sounds about right, an Indy would shave £50 if do off that I would have thought

If that is an MB quote , verify that they will drain the torque converter that holds 50% ish of the oil ....especially if there is no TC drain plug . The indys tend to drain and replace 100% of the oil by disconnecting a hose , the main dealers not always .... Worth checking otherwise you are paying a lot more for half the work/oil .

    Reasons for the oil are:

    1. Car has done 65k miles and there’s no record of it.

    2. I’ve done two trans-Europe long distance high speed trips this summer.

    3. Now its getting colder I’ve noticed that before the engine reaches full operating temperature the downchanges when coming to a stop are getting a little abrupt.

I’d be happy to spend £200 and have this sorted.

Don't bank on the box becoming smoother I find every outing with my 7g an adventure, fully warm it's smooth enough but during the warm-up period the shifts are noticeable, in my case more on the upshift. Give me the 5g anyday

I may at some point get an Indy to look at the gearbox adaptions during warm-up but the tick-over is very low on the blueffiency model which obviously doesn't help and made more noticeable after a DPF regeneration when the back pressure in the exhaust changes, so many variables nowadays

    Noted.

I’ve done my research and I hear what you are saying. I know what a bitch the 7G can be. That said, I’ve also read a lot of posts confirming that an oil change restored smooth changes.

I noticed an improvement when mine was done . I do both cars every 35k miles .....cheaper than a new gearbox at £4000 .

    Yep,
I’ve already contacted Star, hopefully should get a quote from him soon.
