This is a long shot, as this is a fully kitted S class, but you never know!

Had a rear seat passenger yesterday and noticed the following functions did not work on the rear left seat.

Seat adjustment (bottom seat cushion forward and backward)
Headrest adjustment (up down)
Adjustment of the rear lumbar (from the rear seat cushion button on the door)

Heating/cooling/massage all work correctly.

Got it on star, no fault codes. Both rear seats share the same seat controller (Different door controllers).

When I try to actuate the left seat adjustment motors I get "Communication error 600" Star error.

No such issues on the right rear seat.

Additionally, when the passenger puts their seatbelt on, the rear headrest no longer goes up, and the button in the front to raise/lower rear headrests has no affect on the left headrest but works fine on the right one.

Thoughts?

Avoid back seat drivers.
Would be interested to know what the cause is - just out of curiosity.

:)

I am thinking faulty rear seat control module, as the functions that are not working are only related to the rear seat module. The door control module functions (heating etc) are working OK.

Odd that its only one side though. Might try a battery unplug

Can't beat an unplug.

We went away for the week-end recently and parked at the airport. I disconnected the battery because there was an unknown drain causing it to flat overnight. The driver's side door lock was also not functioning as it should.

Came back plugged the battery in...and everything works as it should...including no more battery drain.

On the front seats there's a module in the back of the drivers seat, I was going to say I presume the passenger front has the same thing.... but I've not looked. I was going to say I guess each seat has its own module ?

My drivers one has a small bug and shows an error code for it, but the memory sets everything OK so I live with it.

I thought so, but they show one module for both seats.

only two screws and unlike any other trim bit I've touched in my life, it fits back easily and the screws even line up with the holes !!! (which is a world first in 35 years of playing with cars)

Did some playing today. Battery off/on no change. Reset the control module with developer actuations on star. No change.

Second hand module is £45, wondering if I should swap it out. Seems odd that its only one side when the same module controls both seats. No error codes.

Nice to see you Malc!

Indeed, I am hoping it randomly fixes itself, although my luck has never been that good :)

Purchased from american ebay. The uk sellers like to sell their control modules for more than new!
