Had my new E350 bluemotion AMG estate around 4 weeks now, absolutely love it!

Managed to pick up the correct Brabus D6 (iii) box for it yesterday and spent half an hour this afternoon fitting it.

All I can say is it's now an absolute weapon !!!!

It was no slouch before, but my oh my what a difference it's made.

Mid range torque is,well, just a bit on the mad side.

I'm used to fast cars,I run two Tvr's as weekend toys,so used to a bit of grunt, but after a test drive of half an hour, this thing just made me giggle like a school kid.

Just a heads up really if anyone was thinking of getting such an upgrade,it's well worth it!

I put one on my ML some years ago. I used to tow my m3 out to Spa Francorchamps once a year, and a paricularly long hill on my route would have me down to second gear. Lorries would be overtaking me. The shame!
Brabus box fixed all that!!! Not cheap though...

I had one on my previous ML 280,made a heck of a difference.

Still have the old box knocking about, keep meaning to sell it!

I like the fact you can put it all back to standard within half an hour.

Am considering a W212 E350...seems they are producing about 265bhp/450lbs ft torque.

Quantum tuning offer a remap to 310bhp/516lbs ft torque for £350 which sounds very tempting! though not sure how that compares to the Brabus box.

Isn't the Brabus unit like £1000+?....any idea what gains you get?

I picked mine up off fleabay, £300 whole English pounds, according to the brabus site it gives it 313 bhp and 690ft lb of torque.

Certainly enough ;-)

At the time I bought mine it was the only tuning thing you could do that was approved by Mercedes and didn't affect the warranty, as long as it was fitted before 12,000 miles iirc. That was my main concern at the time, so I bit the bullet.

How did you rate this compared to a remap?

A remap is a cheaper route, and can potentially deliver more. The Brabus box is slightly conservative I'd say. That's probably tied up with merc for the warranty thing. Also, as has already been mentioned, 5 minutes work by a novice to remove the brabus unit. You hear of one or two people having trouble with remaps. I've not heard of any issues with the Brabus. You pay your money and make your choice. ;-)

Empty garage, awaiting new toy :)
The following is IMHO

Brabus D6 III are nothing more than a glorified cheapo smoke box (£50) fitted to many diesels.

I have removed many of these (disconnected) due to premature wear or problems associated.

Connection to the vehicle earth/ground
Connection to the common-rail-pressure sensor (plug with 3 cables)
Connection to the quantity control valve
Injector connection for the Piezo injector 4. cylinder
Connection for the boost-pressure sensor (plug with 3 cables)
Injector connection for the Piezo injector 1. cylinder

Compared to a proper rolling road re-map the cost is beyond belief.

IMHO.

:)

Edit: Please note my only beef is the cost of the Brabus D6
I have no problem with the claims made by the manufacturer and its users.

So you think plug in boxes are a waste of time?

Never said that. ^

The only way any addon box adds power to a diesel is through the common rail fuel quantity valve.

Pound for Pound
The Brabus box v a Rolling road remap, for me its a no brainer.

I suppose this is one of the benefits of a remap?

Especially if the gearbox torque limits are properly set in the remapping.

There's no way I'd pay full retail,it's extortionate to say the least.

But it does seem to be the only alteration to a car that Mercedes permit and warrant.

But for what I paid, and they can be had 2nd hand for around the £3-400 mark, I think it represents good value.

I don't for one minute think a company like Brabus, who I imagine spend millions on development of devices such as these, would be out to get one over on their customers.

It's just another route to the same gain as a re map.

A box can never be the same gain as a proper remap.
At best a box will be an approximation of what can be achieved. The simple reason being that decent remap on a rolling road will give the optimal tune for that particular car and takes into account the exact state of the engine. As the box is programmed away from the car it can only ever be approximate at best and downright wrong at worst.

A box uses trickery, a map.....well it maps!
Individual and somewhat tailored

I appreciate that, but this is hardly a £50 tune box off eBay that simply plugs into the fuel rail pressure sensor.
