Really! .. you have very odd logic.

If for example I had decided to refurbish my last SL 500's wheels (bought new for £81,400) say due to slight kerb damage when it was 4 months old. And I selected a company that proported to do top quality work, for a premium price, and they emphatically assured me they would be perfect, and then they damaged my hub through sheer ****ing, utter incompetence ... I personally would want it repaired properly. And I would make them pay for it.
Especially as my Insurance company have confirmed, if it was not repaired per the mfg's recommendations; and anything untoward happened, and I had prior knowledge of it, then they would void my insurance!

In these circumstances, I personally don't see any difference in a Beautifully maintained 40,000 mile second hand car or a 4 month old one.

And you betcha neither would the CPS, if that wheel came off and killed a kid!

"Matthew Gordon, 30, and Peter Wood, 55, were each convicted of four counts of manslaughter. Gordon was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison, and Wood to five years and three months, on Friday at Bristol crown court"

Sorry but anyone who ignores recent case precedence like this, and has prior knowledge of it, and just accepts it ! is nothing short of ****ing stupid!
Quote
"Alyson Harris, of the Crown Prosecution Service in the south-west, said: “This terrible tragedy could have been avoided had the defendants performed their jobs competently. The company did not comply with the traffic commissioner’s conditions. The vehicle was not properly maintained and it was driven on a road it should not have been on and at a time when it was not roadworthy.”

She added: “We hope that these verdicts bring some sense of justice to the victims’ families and that all road users take note of the importance of safety and of complying with the rules of the road and of the terrible results that can follow if that is not done.”

And before anyone wants to infere that I am difficult.
I have my cars serviced by Hughes a main dealer last 22 years and 4 Indy's Welwyn Merx, MBS, WIM and Sevan Motors ... and never had a problem, why?
Simple they all do the job properly! well actually they all do excellent work! (They all exceed my expectations)

Add to that, the fact the wheel recesses are painted ( and should not be) and on more than one bolt hole the paints so thick and uneven, as soon as that side of the boltface moves the paint, then the bolt will only have only a few Nm torque.
To the point Mercedes said it shouldn't be driven at more than 50mph, for a few miles!

Finally all sorted
MB delivered my car back, nice new rear hub all done.
As usual no damage by Hughes. :)
And the wheel refurbishers card went through so it cost him £683
Lesson to all dont cross thread your wheel bolts :-/

Apart from the hassle, the wheels and hub are sorted and I guess it does have a new rear wheel bearing ( not something one can do oneself, well I couldnt .. needs a massive puller and special press, that inserts the interference fit conical bearing.)

Not that it needed it at 40K beut hey! Cant harm.

So I can now get the alignment done. And finish off tarting her up to "as an all sorted properly maintained car"

Christ these cars Are expensive to mend. The hub flange was £80 not sure how much the bearing was. Strange how complicated MB make these things to fit and change. Just cant help thinking if the flange hub came with a bearing all squeezed in then it coukd just be undo 4 bolts? ( cos you destroy the bearing undoing it anyway ... they distort) .
