I will admit to perhaps driving slightly over the posted 130km/h speed limit for... well, all of the way.

As some of you know we had some issues on the outbound leg:

2hr delays on the M25, causing us to miss our booked train by 1hr 4mins.
Next available train was 2120. We actually left on the 0050 and arrived in Calais at 0125L. An hour or so's drive followed by an hour or so's sleep in an aire, then onto the booked hotel for ~0500L and 4 hours sleep.
Breakfast 0930-1000L and then departing 1030L for what should have been a 12hr straight drive.
40min delays before and after the Mont Blanc tunnel pushed our ETA out to way past a reasonable beddybyes time, so we put up at an agriturismo near Rimini for the night. Leaving there at 1000L, we arrived at our residenza at aroune 1230L.

Across all of that I kept the car at between 88-95mph, most legs showed a moving average speed of 72-75mph. The return was mostly similar with the exception of the Colle della Scala, which was done at between 15-20mph, and the final leg from Troyes to Calais where I kept to 130km/h.

On flat level ground, the best speed for the W215 CL500 is 77mph, 2150rpm indicated where between 27=28mpg will be returned.
That’s good progress Craig, awesome machines those chap!

Took the front wheels off to do the front brake pad removal and re grease , but decided to measure the disc thickness . It came out as just above minimum thickness . Didn't bother with removing the pads because I may need new discs before the next mot next spring (depending on if the garage measure disc thickness ) . I've still got about 50% of pad left .

Drained, flushed and refilled coolant in the 129. Fitted repaired roof support bar.
Next job to see why AC doesn't want to play....(pressure is good, pressure switch seems ok).

Might've accidentally put a conditional deposit on something... Then legged it in after work to double-check it was all in suitable fettle! o_O

Used an opportunity, presented by a failed P21W filament bulb in the rear light assembly, to fit a couple of bright COB bulbs (no resistors) to my reverse lights: I had no spare P21Ws (although some PY21Ws), but those COB bulbs have been in the armrest cubby for a while, waiting.

Surely enough, I got a 'bulb out' on the screen, but only for the left one - it turns out, as my reversing cam is fed from the right light, this is a sufficient extra load, to keep Mr SAM happy.

The left one now has a little extra something, to brighten things up: my OCD won't allow me to keep getting this error on the dash, every time I reverse - in fact, as soon as this was done, I plugged in my iCarsoft and cleared the stored errors o_O

:)

I also fitted (temporarily, to test) a Head Up Display unit, although attempts to take a reasonable photo with an iPhone at night, whilst the car was moving, were not entirely successful - anything faster than 30mph was a complete blur:

So far I like the HUD, and I think I can even live with the sticker on the screen ... a gadget is a gadget, eh?

Probably not Andy... bit of a left-field choice. It's the i30N... if the queries I've put to them are dealt with in a timely fashion. If not...

Very nearly pressed the button on a Golf GTi Performance, but costs were creeping up, I'm reading some unfavourable stories about the 7-sp DSG (although that could be down to people using them like an auto), and the warranty on i30 is quite compelling.

DSG is amazing, full auto is lazy, manual change is electric. i30 will depreciate horribly :eek::eek::eek:

And...is it accurate?
I see from the sales blurb you can adjust the speed to match your speedo, kind of negates the accuracy of GPS if you can turn it up or down if you don't like what it's saying.

I do find Mercedes between 2 & 3 mph overly optimistic in the speed department
