Ordered some Iron X ready for its yearly detail (thanks boys) and just washed it. Used the Demon Shine foam again, worked well. I think it's ok for a virtually clean car. Not much of a foam, but cleaned nicely.

With Iron-X don't leave it to dwell on the car more than a couple of minutes and don't do it in direct sunlight.

I'm not Carl , but iron decon works a treat on alloys ( brakes are where iron particles come from ) . Not when the wheels/brakes are hot though .

Search iron decontamination on eBay or websites like cleanyourcar , juicydetailing , detailing world. I have been using bilt hamber korrosol which works very well .

Again cheers - I'll get some - would you recommend for a weekly clean or is this a once in 6 month detail job?

6 monthly for iron decon ( or if you can't get any black spots off ) , if you clean weekly the wheels will only need soapy washes to get the job done

If you wax your wheels after doing it , they will stay cleaner for longer anyway

Ah slight cross purposes - wheels were detailed and waxed, it was the weekly clean advice I needed so thanks . The SL had red stuff brake pads so hardly any dust but my MB AMG ones are a different animal!

Chucked in a new MAF sensor into my w203 270cdi, pickup is now better and hope no longer to have to keep power cycling the car to stop it being in "limp home" mode

Thanks Carl. Would you use it on the roof? Will rinsing with a hose be good enough or will it need a proper wash? I intend to clay it straight after. Ta.

I always wash the car again afterwards but that's because I'm OCD and I will have used Tardis & Iron X so want to ensure nothing is left.

A good rinse should be fine and yes it's fine to use on the roof.

I iron x the whole car (not glass for me ) then rinse with water , wash the car to get the surface clean , then clay .

Morning Carl, what would you recommend for the alloys?

Sorry for late reply John

I only ever used AS Smart Wheels wheel cleaner. I found it less aggressive than some cleaners out there.

I also use Iron-X and Tardis on the wheels.

But always cleaned first with Smart Wheels.

The way i do Wheels when giving a proper clean is as follows:

- Remove the wheel completely.
- Spray the whole wheel with a pressure washer to remove any loose dirt.
- Spray Smart Wheels on and allow to dwell for a couple of minutes
- Agitate with a decent wheel brush to ensure cleaning in and behind all spokes etc.
- Pressure Washer Rinse
- Whilst the wheel is wet spray with Tardis and leave to dwell for no longer than 5 mins. Paying attention to being careful near wheel weights. Observing where any tar runs are and removing the tar by rubbing with a microfibre cloth.
- Wash with soapy water & Pressure washer to remove the Tardis.
- again whilst wet apply Iron-X and let dwell for no longer than 5mins. Use the wheel brush to agitate areas where any contaminant runs are showing.
- Wash with soapy water and pressure washer rinse again.
- Clay all surfaces and then final wash rinse and dry off.
- The treat with FK1000p.

I do this once every 3 months or so the rest of the time I use only a pressure washer. Once a fortnight I use Smart Wheels and a wheel brush to keep clean as the FK1000p acts as a barrier for a lot of it.
