Used my 8" long double jointed fingers to change the drivers side front sidelight bulb in the Micro Merc (Smart Roadster). I'd love to see how they thought it possible to do using the cars own toolkit.....

I use a couple of long screw drivers like chop sticks to change them. I fitted forward facing surface mount led side lights to mine, & though they don't last forever, they seem to last a lot longer than filament bulbs

I left my Merc at a local indie today.

I'm embarrassed to say I paid someone else to service it  Left it there as it needs a new rear shocker & they're doing that too. I'd normally replace stuff like that in pairs, but as a shocker is apparently £400, it's just getting one. Maybe I should have looked for pattern, to match its neighbouring air spring.

I wish I'd looked on eBay before I left it at the indie. ..... a pair of new shockers for half the price.

I used a pair of pliers similar to these. Fitted a short section of heatshrink plastic to the jaws to give some grip and it went in reasonably easy.

Went and had the refurbished wheels fixed.
Quite a good job, but not ecstatic.
1. I asked for a very glassy lacquer and its fairly standard, well a bit above standard.
2. They had problems putting in one of the bolts ... looked like there was some paint in the way :-/
3. They also scraped the laquer on one of the wheel recesses, and some of the silver, but not through the powdercoating, which was then touched in by hand :(:(:( no clear coat :(:( ... so I guess muggins will have to do that. They did write on the invoice they would sort it, if it failed.
4. The back of the wheels looked painted, ( I thought they were supposed to leave a machine surface .. but not sure?? ) so I think, I may have to carefully rub that off with wet and dry, being sure not to wet and dry off any wheel aluminium. Not overly happy that having paid for a pucker job, that I have to "me d it" :(
5. I assumed the inside of the wheels would be laquered silver, but no, it was like the typical AMG light grey paint. Lesson learnt one has to ask/ insist. :(

So not in the best of moods, and kinda wonder was it all worth £420. :-/
Wish I had gone to 'the wheel specialist' in fareham now .

In summary yes they are all sorted, and slightly more glossy, but not a huge improvement over AMG's std. wheels .. no bling effect, and no super easy maintenance :( [ sort of two of the main driving factors, as my wheels weren't awful, just some corrosion on 3 wheels around the wheel bolt areas ].

On the plus side they bought the SL500 rear wheel for £60 so the net price was £360.

Just a tad disappointed to be honest.

A more detailed look when I got home, I think there is a slight mark on one of the faces that has attracted brake powder. Maybe it will polish off.

I didnt notice it as they didnt polish the wheels once they were fitted .... so difficult to do a critical assessment.

Lets say, I am so underwhelmed, I cant even be arsed to take some pictures.

I was really hoping that I would have a real nice treat today.

Soaked seagull poo off it again! Ordered a cheap lightweight cover from Amazon cos Ive had enough!
20 minutes last night before I could drive home from the office carefully removing baked on poo
I know, covers can cause some paint damage potentially if the car isn't clean but vs poo/concrete mix I know what I'd rather deal with!

Car cover is the best way John if no covered parking available.

No amount of protection coating will stop it baking on a flat surface.

If you can resist and wait until you get home then a cloth soaked in hot water and left on will help remove it easier.

Baby wipes are good too.

Thanks Carl- honestly this stuff is unbelievable. It stuck fast to a bit on the bonnet a week or so ago and although I got it off, in the right light I can see a bit where I was 'impatient' Horrible
Agreed on the hot water. That makes sense I'll try to be patient!
Another tip I saw on tinternet was to use a microfibre cloth doubled or quartered up to give some bulk, soak one side with Sonax or another detailer, put that side on the Poo, the other side of the cloth then soak through with water (not enough to run), leave for 10 minutes, then use the cloth to enclose poo, lift off. Clean microfibre then to buff...
What do you think?
Oh and as I think we talked about, I'd been using the Autoglym wipes, which are great for normal poo, but useless for the concrete stuff! I find baby wipes the same (just cheaper!)

Yeah as I said a while back AG are just expensive baby wipes and only good if it's not baked on.

To be honest I try and get it off very early in the morning (as it's softened overnight) or using the hot water method.

If you want to be impatient the safest impatient way is hot water from a kettle. It won't mark the paint

Sonax & a MF is great and it's what i use when I'm out and about.

Cover arrived yesterday £20.99 delivered on Amazon prime- fitted this morning to the car in the company car park, much to the amusement of my colleagues....they won't be laughing when my car is **** free though!
