Today I changed my drivers side indicator LED in the wing mirror because the old one had let water in and blown. The local dealer wanted £140 for part plus fitting so I purchased a brand new replacment part last week on ebay and fitted it myself for a total cost of £20. I also made a vidoe of how I did it so others can see how easy it is here :)

Did a quick Pela suction oil change of the E320cdi with my new 20L of MB 229.51 oil as soon as the postman arrived with my new oil filter . Put 8.5L of nice clean new stuff in .
The service indicator was showing Service not confirmed after reset so I'm hoping that will sort itself out . Maybe the car knows someone unskilled has been tinkering

Just checked the service indicator and it has now changed to service C in 15533 miles . So it worked , just took a while to change .

Drove down to MBS in Southampton
Colin has sorted out the diff, and fitted my Osram Intense Blue sidelights.
Got to say glad I got him to change those .... had to take the under engine covers off and on the left side, you even have to take the wheel liners out too!
There is absolutely no other way.
Luckily I hadnt lost any diff oil, and the lights seem in daylight to be a big improvement on the wishy washy very yellow std. ones.

He also greased/lubricated all my "Sensors" and ****** glad he did as most were stiff , especially one that looked almost siezed!
Hmmm they are pretty flimsy and expensive on this car.
So As always a great service from MBS, and a huge saving.
Plus a very nice set of guys down there.

Now mechanically all sorted, I felt justified in exercising the right foot.
That V8 never ceases to impress me how it can effortlessly hurl that huge car forward as if it weighed 500kg. :):):)
The only thing missing is that glorious AMG Growl ;)

But The happiness factor was nearly wiped of my face twice on the way back.
On the M3 this total Wally in a Passat just pulled out into the fast lane, just about managed to stop in time ( good brakes on the CL :):) )
The Range Rover Vogue following me nearly shunted me up the back ( and he wasnt tailgating) and he then skidded sideways, but fortuneately recovered it just in time. (He then overtook me and got level with the Wally and I could see him screaming his head off at the Passat driver ... but hey justified.

And then when nearly home I see this car in the distance straddling the white line, coming head on. OMG have they had a heart attack and passed out or what, in the end had my lights full on and the horn blasting for a full 20secs, before they get back on their side. And I could clearly see her putting on her f@@cking lipstick! Seriously!

But on balance a jolly good day :):)

You need a dash cam - the Police might have been interested in both those events

About 10 days ago my concentration was momentarily distracted whilst driving along a narrow road and my passenger side door mirror struck a hazard warning bollard and the mirror fell to the ground and was smashed into a million pieces. Subsequently, driving and especially parking, with only one door mirror is frightening because of the risk of further damage to the vehicle.

I own a C230K 2000 and I ordered a new mirror and motor and fitting them was my main task today. It would have been easier and quicker if it didn't rain. I figured it should have been possible to complete the task within 15 - 30 minutes. The job actually took 2hr 30m because I had trouble fitting the mirror to the circular motorised 'table', which angles the mirror. Closer examination of both table and mirror revealed there was a tolerance problem and I filed away 1-2/1000" of plastic here and there (on the table) until the two parts fitted together snuggly. I am very pleased with the result. The mirror positions smoothly and accurately, better than before. However, I am left with a nagging mystery. On the reverse of the mirror are 2 'L-shaped' metal clips, which are designed to slide along 'something'. But what is that 'something' and what is their true purpose? They seem redundant.

Maybe they are for a differently specced car , maybe heated mirror , or different model fitment ?

Replaced the broken SL500 front grille with an aftermarket grille. What do you think?

The replacement mirror is heated and tinted, exactly like the one that was smashed. Since the 'L-shaped' springs are made from steel, maybe they support the mirror or steady it in some fashion. All of the advice I've read concerning mirror replacement never mentions the springs yet I feel they are important.

We have already pushed the envelope with my first guess ... Good luck with it
