Those look good Jon ( tyres and gators)- presume she’s not got diamond cuts then?

No, they were refurbished last year with a full powder coat, no point in polishing wheels, no longevity to it.

Good call and as I said looking good... most gators I’ve seen folks have been trying the colour contrast but it suits silver

They do look subtle, I wanted to do the wheels grey as it would look good against the Indigolight Blue paint but she was having none of it so "hi-power" silver it was

Just reappeared from under the car after doing a 5g ATF drain and new filter on the CLK . It was fiddly working on your back with very little space , but it was a nice sunny day to get it all done . I read the DIY section first there is a good thread about the 722.6 transmission . I sheeted the whole area of the drive with a big absorbent pad first which payed dividends when I spilt some oil getting the sump pan off . I used nearly a whole can of brake cleaner getting the pan clean and sparkly again along with the magnet . The new filter went in OK but it took a minute to realise that it goes in at a slight angle because the recess for the tab on the filter isn't square with the hole for the filter neck . The new gasket fitted nicely and held on while I manoevered the pan back into place , the pressure is off then when you get two bolts and spacers back in place to hold the pan up so you can get some feeling back into your arm . I torqued all the sump pan nuts to 8nm and the drain plug to 25nm with a new washer . This should have been to only 20nm but I miss read the wrench in the dark under the car , I ummed and aahed about releasing it and doing it back up to 20nm but thought if I've done any damage I might as well leave it (any advice about this ???) .
All in all a fiddly job but made easier by reading up in advance and having the right tools .
I had suctioned out some ATF and replaced it a few months ago so what came out was in good condition , it was more about changing the filter so I didn't worry about the torque converter being drained . All I need now is for FedEx to deliver my 4 litres of ATF tomorrow so I can replace the 3.5 litres I drained off .
Took 2 hours and cost £50 for Fuchs Titan 4134 and Merc filter, gasket and sump washer .

Wighty,
I will be following in your footsteps next Saturday and doing this oil change on my car. And one question for you, did you notice if the drain plug washer was just the standard flat copper washer, or was it the "Sandwich" type? I did not get a new one with the kit, but I do have a selection of other new one's, all plain flat washers.
Thanks Jim2.

I do have an eBay dipstick that I use every year to check levels . I will firstly add the 3.5 litres that came out then go for a drive then recheck hot with engine running and in park

Me again Wighty, about the Ebay dipstick you used. Was it accurate? I mean did you check it against a "Genuine" one? Or dip another merc transmission, just to be sure? I have also got an Ebay dipstick, and it was listed as being the correct one for the 722.6 box, so I am just being on the safe side, seeing as how critical the oil level is on the Merc.( which is a bit strange... as the max and min marks @ 45c are about 1/2 inch apart.
Thanks Jim2

Hi Jim , yes it was a flat plain copper washer if my memory serves correctly . My dipstick was an eBay special , no I haven't compared it to an original Merc one , but I did measure the box level before I drained it and measured and kept the drained oil so I could accurately cross check everything . Get yourself a big cheap 2 litre plastic jug for accurate oil measurement and pouring . I'm away for a few days in Wales so good luck with it and I'll read with interest when I get back on tinternet .

Had to redo the boot rubber sealing as I didn't have the right Loctite sealer when I did this before, then the house move got in the way so I decided to set aside this morning to reseal the boot rubbers. A very easy job as the sealer I used peeled away beautiful, actually it hadn't even sealed at all and since the freezing temps it had pushed the rubbers even further from the body.

All resealed and will see how attempt 2 goes

No, snazzy puddle lights ;)
Quite right. Snazzy puddle lamps are fine. Lighty up badges are a bit... Derek Trotter ;)

Here are my 'original' puddle lights as fitted in the door mirrors. Plus the cill lighted kick panel.

No words, just the MB Star.

My bil fitted aftermarket ones with the words on his W212 E350, in the front doors only as the rear doors are not on the bottom of the doors so distort the words.
