The dash just warned me it needs a C Service in 28 days .
What is a C Service, not kept a MB with more than 45,000 miles for decades.

I think its done 2,000 miles since the last B Service. Current mileage is 45,100 ish

Any biggies in this C service ?

It had the spark plugs and air filter changed last time, gearbox oil 5,000 miles ago, and Brake fluid and differential oil changed 18 months ago.
And the ABC fluid and filter etc.

The pollen filter looked squeaky clean when I greased the front fan in Junes. I wonder if I can refuse that and still keep Mobilo breakdown ... as hell it wont effect the car!

Only thing I wonder about is the aircon fluid ... is that in a C Service (if so I should have taken up that special deal LOL.)

Interested if anyone has had a C on a CL500 5.5L and what £sss they hit you for :(

Or is it the usual [CL] 500 x 2 = £1,000 :):):)

Have you consulted the online service guide. There are many links for it and you put in the age of the car, mileage etc and it tells you what is needed.
If you ignore it you will lose your Mobilo.

I thought MBS did your servicing Sub?

My servicing is done at Local MB Dealers (after bartering down the price to the 7 year old plus rates) , but any “real work” is Done at MBS, eg new ABC struts and fluid flushing, Brake Fluid changes and Gearbox or Diff changes, Discs etc. and anything that breaks!

The distance is the problem. And it keeps Mobilo ... no quibble !

I did get caught out when the Mobilo engineer was sure it was just a corroded ABC controller earth point; but it turned out to be 4 Wheel sensors! ... cost £220 more at the main dealer!
Hence any work required is always done at MBS

.... plus I suspect my 9 year old car will not get an experienced tech at the Main dealer! Lets face it if there is my 9 year old car and a new S Class Coupe costing £156,000 ... I bet mine gets the trainee!
OK thats just me guessing, and the service at the local MB dealership has been excellent for 20 plus years, but I would prefer Colin to do anything complex!

In my opinion the guys at MBS really know their stuff, and pin point the problem rather than just change modules until the problem is solved. (Anyone with a big Merc will understand these “control modules” cost an arm and a leg!)

Thanks,
Its now done 45,712 miles , so thats only 2,137 miles this year!
I must say I resent the ‘annual’ aspect, as Mobil 1 0W40 certainly can last a tad more than that.
Hmmm pretty sure there are lots of folks who do that in 2 months.

Anyone can do a test and re-gas, my indy does them for £35

Just did that
Says £780.60
Under additional Service Items is a plus box ,
Says “change gearbox oil and filter £376.97 ** “
Is that** included in the £780.60 ? Or additional ... :(:(

If its included, as I had this done 2 years ago at 40,070 miles I assume I can omit that!
Then its £403.63 ... I can live with that. But call me tight its still a lot for an oil change!

I assume these are VAT inclusive ??

Weird plug in my mums postcode in Guildford
And it is £626.09 and £299.21 for the gearbox
I.e. £326.88

Hmmmm its the same MB car! Both are Main Dealers
Would you drive 26 miles to save £76!
Could drive over there, and take my sister who lives nr Guildford out for a pretty reasonable pub lunch!

Just to point out I tried these for quotes:

Exeter £695
Plymouth £625
Taunton £625

For a B Service with Air filters (£165), Fuel Filter(£117) and Brake Fluid (£98) - same price across all 3

Called MB Guildford and told was told its £524, including a Combination Filter and Air filters.
Hmm in October 2017 it had an “ Activated Charcoal Dust filter” ... £72 plus VAT ... is that not a Combination Filter? ( think they are every 2 years)
And In September 2016 it had Air filters ... arent they every 4 years ?

So queried that!
Eventually spoke to technician
Who said I was right, and it needed the basic Service plus new Brake fluid, as that was done in Sept 2016.

So new Quote is now £404.
(£322 Service plus £82 new Brake Fluid).

Moral of the story is, IMO that Online Quote checker is B*llocks

£870 or £626 or if you bother go through it properly the old fashioned way, its £404 and note this then gets the brake fluid changed correctly every 2 years .. the other quotes didnt have that!

Maybe well heeled forum members don't mind paying £870 when they could pay £404 ...

But hey I think I will just continue going through it with them line by line ... :):)

That is cheaper than mine works out to at:

£315 plus £98 for brake fluid - £413

Not so good news but a great result.
That quote of £404 doesnt include Mobil 1 .... yeah I know ... but I like that oil.
When asked if they could get it in, they said they couldnt but I can supply my own oil.
So without their oil the price drops to £264.95
Add 10L of Mobil 1 from engine oils direct a main Mobil distibutor at £83.80
And the whole Service done for £348.75

Assuming they drop off the price of their std. oil.
And includes the Brake fluid change. :)

My local dealer is sticking at £531 but will graciously drop to £500

So yes I will drive an extra 40 miles to save £152!
