Since fitting 4 new tyres last year I've had slow leak issues. Once a month or every 2 months I take it to the local tyre place who charge £10 per wheel to reseal them.

On a recent visit he showed me small crack about an inch on the inside of one of the rims.He also showed me the cause of the leaks which was worn rim.

Since my car is old and rusting away I don't want to spend too much. My mileage is low and mostly local journeys. The options I can t IMG_20170919_132636.jpg hink of are,

1-New steel ones.
2-Used steel or alloy.
3-Refurbish.
4-A set from the scrap yard.

The car is a 2000 E320.

What would you guys recommend?

Thanks.

You don't say where you are but I can recommend Northampton Welding to repair and refurb those to as new standards.

+ 1 for refurb, or see if you can find someone who might want a swap - those are good monoblock wheels as JB says they are sought after

Sell them , if desirable , and get a brand new set of branded wheels as they will be straight and true and covered by a guarantee.

With the tyres fitted they will need minimum balancing.

For what it would have cost to get my AMG`s re-diamond cut and finished i was only an extra £50 for a brand new set of larger wheels plus i have the old wheels for when they start throwing salt on the roads.

Back in the day you could get car inner tubes.

That was when we didnt worry about niceties such as balancing.

My old military Land Rover ambulance had 35" diameter wheels (16" rims - the rest was tyre!). Tyres were crossply and had tubes and were impossible to balance due to the rim being so far from the edge of the tyre...

I can recommend First Aid Wheels in Hampstead - they did mine - great job.

Just bought a refurbed set of CLK wheels from them for £399, the finish is excellent, so recommended.

To refurb my old ones properly would be at least £300 so their price is reasonable.

I actually went for their like-for-like swap, so the set of perfectly finished, in high gloss anthracite, AMG III 18" wheels was only £280, and I spent there less than 40 minutes - excellent service, and takes away all the usual inconvenience of a wheel refurb process - two trips, loaner wheels or leave the car there, etc, etc.

Took your tip and went there today. To weld one crack, repair 2 slightly buckled rims and refurbish all 4 came to £350 including vat.
Was given a set of loan wheels till mine are ready. Very good busy place.

Great result, I'm sure you'll be happy with their work.
Frightfully tight place to reverse out though

I was in the army late 60's with split rim LR wheels. They were replaced with standard rims, but were still expected to change the tyres. Three tyre leaves & a sledge hammer, split rims were easier.

This was the first place I've been to since owing cars that used a torque wrench to tighten the wheel bolts.

The loan wheels are quiet good. Car is driving much better (could be placebo). IMG_20170921_101846.jpg

Ridgeway tyres Plympton always torque your wheels and tell you to come back after 50 miles to have them checked. I always just retorque them myself, 'cause I like to
