yes i do understand thatI believe the answer to that one is no. All the standard fit 18 inch and above wheels have wider rears. If you want all around same size it will be a drop to 17s. They come in 245/45 both front and rear. Not sure about the w212 but on my w219 CLS the wheels which were same size both front and rear had marking on the rear set that stated rear axle only.
Also worth adding in there. It is not as simple as slapping a smaller tyre. The wheel itself is wider than the front.
but why will the 245x18 on the front not fit on the rearI believe the answer to that one is no. All the standard fit 18 inch and above wheels have wider rears. That (245:265) is what Mr. Filipino referred to.
Hahah!!!! ****** autocorrect!!!Where did mr filipino come from hhahahha
you are not getting what i'm saying.Because the wheel barrel is an inch wider. 7.5-8.0" wide front and 8.5-9.0" rears. So you need wider tyres on the rears.
My cars all take 245/40 R18 fronts and 265/35 R18 rears. That (245:265) is what Mr. Filipino referred to.
Fitting a 245mm tyre on a wheel designed to fit a 265-275mm wide one will leave that tyre:
a) dynamically unstable as the sidewalls are not sat square onto the bead.
b) more prone to tyre slap on cornering.
c) more prone to "skipping" on cornering.
d) looking daft.
Because the biggest unitary wheel size your car is designed for is 17". Anything bigger than that becomes a staggered setup. Mr Filipov said this in his first post to you in this thread.you are not getting what i'm saying.
why can i not just take the wheels off the front and put them on the rear.
in other words 245s x 18 all round
you are wrong because some E220s run 245x18s front and back.Because the biggest unitary wheel size your car is designed for is 17". Anything bigger than that becomes a staggered setup. Mr Filipov said this in his first post to you in this thread.

i think you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.Because the biggest unitary wheel size your car is designed for is 17". Anything bigger than that becomes a staggered setup. Mr Filipov said this in his first post to you in this thread.
i think you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.
you also are a book reader and with all respects you dont know about practical technicalities. In this instance nor have you.
You asked for opinion and got it. The problem is you haven't grasped what either have said to you.
Do yourself a favour. Look at this page. http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/mercedes_alloy_wheels/e_class_saloon_w212_alloys
Now choose any 18" wheel. Scroll down and see what size tyre is fitted. Every set of 18" wheels for a W212 are staggered and have a wider tyre on the rear.

OK, whatever you say.
If you are so knowlegeable, why ask in the first place?
Over and out.
it would be good to get fact and not opinions.OK, whatever you say.

all along i was talking about wheels. i am asking for facts and not quotes from a comic book. You appear to be sure that you have answered your own question so buy the tyres and come back to the forum and show us the results.
