Hi All,

I have an ESP problem which my Indie has STAR diagnosed to the 'Rotary Speed and Lateral Acceleration Sensor A002 542 66 18'. He couldn't do the job himself as he was going on hols. I've obtained a second hand one on ebay, but I can't find it on the vehicle. Indie says it is under the centre console, but I've had the complete console out. Found the airbag sensor in front of the gearstick, but no yaw sensor. Pulling out what little hair I have left at mo.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Not sure on a 211, but on the late 210's its under the console to the rear of the gear selector

Thanks guys, but as I say I've had the whole of the centre console out. I've checked under the carpets where I can see, but zippo. Any W211 owners had to replace this?

In many cars it is in the boot very near the back of the rear seat

I think I remember seeing a similar sensor in my w220 under the rear seat swab.

May be different on a w211 but it is very easy to remove.....worth a look

According to wis, a 211 320 cdi has the yaw/LAS under the floor beneath the passenger seat.

You really should put your exact car details in your profile to remove some of the guesswork .

If I recall correctly, you need to use STAR to refit this as it needs to be put into test mode to initialise the settings.

Thanks Television and Adam G. I'll check boot and under rear seat. Thanks Miffy, I've updated my profile and will check under passenger's seat. Indie didn't mention the resetting, so I'll start with a straight swop out.

You may already know about this, but I found 'Walter Mittys' Youtube vids priceless for removing the centre console.

W211 LAS/YAW/Rotary Sensor and ESP ECU

Hi All,

I've just got back from hols and still have the ESP problem, been driving without ABS and cruise control consequently. Having been around almost all of the car, I finally located my LAS sensor - it's under the driver's seat on the floor, butting up against the centre console - pls see pics. Indies' STAR said passenger's side in the text, but me having gone there and found nothing, he noticed a picture further down the blurb showing the driver's side!

Anyway, having located it, I now know that I have sourced the wrong part from ebay. Mine is A 003 542 03 18, and the part I bought is A 003 542 66 18, even though it was described as for a W211 2004 etc. etc. Now here's the rub... the dealer can supply one for £678!*!*! so I thought that I would check the wiring to the ECU instead of going back to the indie for further work. Can anyone help me to locate the ECU?

Hi Television.

When I turn the ignition switch to position 2, I get an ESP fault message displayed in white in the round display, followed occasionally by an ABS message in white, in the round display. There is no ABS lamp as such as far as I know. When I start the engine and move the car, I get a further ESP message in white.

If someone can help me locate the ESP ECU, I'll check the wiring between it and the YAW sensor before going back to my Indie.

The diagram in 2 shows it in the front drivers side, this could be passengers side in the UK, I can look it up in the job sheet

It is under the passenger seat, you have to remove the seat fixing bolts and tip it up, then lift the floor covering after removing the grill behind the seat.

We have a hard time in the UK, for most cars the internal wiring harness is turned up side down to go from LHD to RHD,,, but this is not always the case and we never know when it is not, and in most cases it does not apply to ICE stuff and SAT stuff, life is hard sometimes,, if it is not under that side it must be under the other side

I have a 2009 C200 diesel estate which my son reversed into a post cracking the rear bumper.

Soon after this I experienced the ESP icon display on my car and it went into limp mode about 12 weeks a go for no apparent reason. I restarted the car and the icon was gone but ever since the engine light comes on and the car thinks about going into limp mode for about 3 - 4 seconds and then clears. Yesterday driving at 60 mph the ESP icon came on and the car went into limp mode until I stopped the engine and it cleared again.

The only error code on STAR is the temperature fuel sensor and noting to do with ESP.

Also the alarm sounds randomly which may or may not be linked.

This is now driving me mad and I've lost all faith in the car......... any advice greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Have a 2004 w11 e320 (made for U.S. market) and just found B24/15 on my iCarsoft MB V2.0 scanner.
"Sensor Lateral Acceleration Sensor location?" was my first question, and found a site with a picture and
actual MB installation instructions attached to it. It is as we say: "Just what the Doctor ordered!"
https://www.benzworld.org/threads/lateral-acceleration-sensor-location.2404785/

I have also pdf’d the above site, and excerpts with larger pic is in 1st Attachment.

The Crown Jewels, if you will forgive my flippancy is in the 2nd Attachment which appears to be actual MB shop directives!

The definitive answer appears to be beneath towards the front of the passenger front seat. The MB pamphlet even shows a neat and precise way to remove the seat expeditiously!

The thread queries whether a STAR DIAGNOSIS is necessary, since an e320 owner believes his 2003 w211 e320 is not equipped with a distronic system which STAR would have to reset:

Reading the instructions posted above I see that the following was added to the sensor replacement procedure, see below thread:

"Perform initialization of DTR Control Unit after replacing sensor"

Does this initialization require a factory re-flash or is this something that can be done via a simple power re-set perhaps?

Brad

In these cases they want the MB Star computer used. However if you do not have Distronic (a very rare option) then I am not sure it has to be done.

I'm just about certain that this car is not equipped with Distronic, so given that, a factory re-flash should NOT be required. Anyone disagree with that?

End of thread.

No one ever answered this final question: "...factory re-flash should NOT be required. Anyone disagree with that?"

At end of 1st Attachment is are pics of various rotary speed/lateral acceleration sensors.
