I own a 300SL. I want to add to the stable by buying a 190 for winter use.
I have driven one but not for many years and have no idea now which is the best to get. I am told the 1.8 is too slow and the 2.6 too thirsty [it cannot be much more thirsty than my 300 at speed!]
It looks like the 2.0 litre is the best bet. What was the spec at the time and is there anything in particular I should look out for. I have seen some low mileage one at comparatively sensible money but am I likely to be buying trouble?
An alternative I had considered was something in the 124 series

Any views?

The 'standard spec' was modest enough but many were ordered with 4 leccy windows, alloys, tilt and slide sunroof, and autobox. 1991> models have airbags and ABS as standard plus a nicer looking central dashboard area.
The 1.8 only gives 11 bhp away to the 2.0.
