Mercedes CLC 180
Hi,

I am looking for a 2011 CLC and was wondering which would be the most desirable and depreciate the least? SE, Sport? 180, 200, 230, 350?

I am leaning more towards the Sport, but am interested in others thoughts.

Thanks

Is that a trick question?

They are not very desirable since the new A class was launched.
Get the cheapest you can, lowest mileage, best condition. Some at dealers are very overpriced.

Run the value through we buy any car. For example if you buy one for £8k, in a year it'll be worth £4k.

I actually like my CLC, and I can get a wheelchair in it, which is more than can be said of many Merc saloons. My disabled wife is very grateful for that.

When driving alone, it feels sufficiently different to be enjoyable.

That's a bit harsh GlosRich, remember, it's horses for courses. ;)

The CLC was an update of the C Class Sport Coupe, which is a fantastic little car. I have had a couple of them myself and I think they are brilliant. Especially with the 220CDI engine.

Totally different car to the new A Class, much more comfortable IMO.

^^^ I would agree with that, from a drivers point of view the 220CDi is probably the best engine, a little noisy low down but a nice torquey engine without being overpowering. :)

Either the 220Cdi or the 350 would be my picks....

Get one with as much extras as you can afford, and nothing wrong with choosing a CLC 230 would be my choice and petrol.

The only problem with the 350 is they are rare. As rare as rocking horse droppings....
That says two things in my view:
1. They weren't a popular choice new (probably due to a price premium for the larger engine coupled to economy concerns)
2. They will have done the bulk of their depreciation already and will be starting to attract a premium for the rarity.

My personal preference (but I like large petrol engines so could be biased would be the 350 Sport in automatic (7G gearbox was standard on the V6 but not on the 4 cylinders).

This one ( a bit older than you were after admittedly) has the spec I would want.

My CLC was a cracking car. Petrol 200 kompressor with a panroof.

First I wouldn't worry about depreciation. Fair enough if you are buying new at £50k with the possibility of losing £20k in short order if you get a car that turns out to be a tricky resale. But if you are looking at an age where prices start from £5k in truth it's not so much of an issue.

Re how desirable... actually that really is your choice... what do you want in term of colour, trim level and interior finish.... buy the car you desire.

*The* most important thing having decided on the above is to get the most honest & clean car for your budget.

But...he doesn't want a Jetta.

Well yes I know that, thats’s why he is on the Mercedes forum.
All i’m saying is that this is kinda poor in terms of performance and output.

£290 tax and only 143 bhp??
That is laughable if you ask me. My dads VW Jetta has more power, same tax and faster to 60.

What a strange thing to say.

Don't buy a CLC because it will never win a top trumps card game?

I’d have to have the largest petrol I could. A fun project I’d like to do (if I was interested) would be to get myself an early pre £515 tax C350 Sport Coupe and do a full CLC facelift to bring it up to date. 272 bhp in a car that size can only be fun :D

What I am saying is that the odds are not atacked in its favour. That meaning you must really want one to buy one.
