IMG_4188.JPG Hi all,

Only my second post so please be kind :)

I've recently purchased a 2010 e350cdi saloon (231 bhp)

After I got it, I noticed under heavy acceleration a kind of whine, it sounds like a supercharger if I'm honest, but it's only for about 2 seconds and it was when I was heavy heavy accelerating and it only happened between 3rd and 4th on the 7 speed tipronic box. It was not there in E mode but there in S mode.

Today I've been to see the lovely bloke that is Acid over at MSL Birmingham for a remap, and now the noise is there louder and more apparent but only for the same short time and it's louder in S mode and only between 3rd and 4th. But now you can also hear it in E mode.

When I spoke to Acid, he said it could possibly be the torque converter but it was strange that it's only happening in 1 gear.

The car had the auto box serviced at 45k and is now on 74k, but I'm miffed at what it could be.

Luckily I purchased from a main dealer (albeit not merc) so warranty isn't a issue if it is something gearbox related, but I'm just wanting your opinions?

Thanks in advance

Liam.

I've attached the new dyno graph in case it helps

If it's louder following a remap it suggests it's more turbo/ inlet related.
A common issue is a split inlet pipe between turbo to intercooler or intercooler to intake manifold.

Otherwise it coukd be turbo or intercooler.

Hmm interesting...

Would it not be on every gear at the same rpm if it was turbo/inlet as they are under the same stress?

Also it does not do it while stationary and free revving.

If I'm honest it's a cool sound I'm just hoping it's nothing serious. Luckily the car is under warranty

Mine whistles fairly well when cold on low throttle but goes away when warmed. Turbos are funny beasts. A small imperfection on a vane can make strange noises.

Nope, wasn't de-catted. Just a straight forward remap.

I was going to have the egr valve turned off but MSL advised against it unless I was having the dpf removed.

Now then......Strangest thing...

It's not ****** making the noise anymore, I've just tried to make it so it for the last 20 minutes and nothing!

I really don't know what to make of it lol

@Liamjay did you find out what was causing the whine? I am having the exact same problem exactly as you describe it and sometimes it doesn’t do it! Hmm. Baffled
