After driving short distances at low speed I get a whine or grinding noise from the front of the engine.
At higher speeds over long distances no problem.
I was told the Abc pump was faulty.
I had it replaced still the same.
Any ideas ?

More likely to be the pulsation damper. Part of the ABC system it's a sphere with oil one side of a rubber membrane and compressed gas the other. It's purpose is to take out the pulses resulting from the pump pressurising the ABC system and when they fail the pulses from the pump cause a whining noise.
What happens is the membrane leaks. Often you'll see a drop in the ABC fluid level as a result.

Other things it can be are the ABC pump, belt idler, water pump and aircon compressor. You can check the A/C by switching it off/on and seeing if the noise goes on and off. The others can be checked by removing the belt and feeling the bearings on each for roughness.

True enough I'll start with the belt off. The ac is okay.
BTW do you happen to know where the m13 heater pump is located?
I bought a diagnostic tool and it's faulty apparently when the heater is on

Thanks however the schematic does not show where the pump is located. Can you please describe how to find it?

I don’t have a 230 anymore Sean so not 100% sure on this but my sketchy memory tells me it is under /behind the dash on on the passengers side ? LK on here has still got a 230 so maybe he can confirm or tell me i’m Crazily off mark!
(It was one of the only things i didn’t change or repair on mine!)

Right front behind bumper. Remove undertray to get to it (need to do mine was Star says it's duff)

Funnily enough my E class has a duff one too (and the one I fitted to my Smart has also died!)

I did wonder as the pipe in the schematic heads through the front towards the radiator
