When someone posts a problem.....it's usually (not allway's but usually) the same people who reply. There are a few who are very knowledgeable about nearlly all spect's of Mercedes.

So how did you guy's get this knowledge.....is it where you worked or just like myself on the forum's searching for diffirent thing's.....just wondering that's all...

I don't know about anyone else but reading lots of information sources and not being afraid to poke things under the bonnet (as it were) gives you a bit of an advantage.

Plus years of experience like Television has don't go amiss either ;-)

years of rebuilding my BMW

and my VWs before it. I like my Mercs though, they let me keep my hands clean most of the time. I read the manuals, scour the interwebnet, and try and remember what my Dad taught me.

I avoided it because, how do you answer 'why do you know so much?' without sounding like a dick or an Amercan!

Here's my attempt.
My dad ran mercs since the '79 so I've had experience of them for 25 years. I'm on my 3rd and being very fussy, don't let a single fault pass without at least trying to resolve it. I never take the 'its fixed' answer, I want full details of what was done and why (I drive the service man mad). As a teenager I would take all my cars apart and had mechanic friends who would advise me and help me put them back together again. Many happy hours covered in oil. My brain is wired as an engineer and when my accountancy career crashed (because I was bored primarily), I considered training as a mechanic but figured IT was much better paid and cleaner so went there instead. Same job but you tweak bits and bytes instead of nuts and bolts. Above all, I'm interested in how things work, whether they are computers, planets or the flashing green light that comes on but flashes at a different rate when you indicate (still has me perplexed!). When you're interested, you pick things up, by reading, playing and just thinking things through. I guess I'm a nurd!
Thats me anyway.

i just search the forum for an answer that someone else gave and pass it off as my own!:p

what you find is that some have technical knowlege of cars and like mercedes, so they can use that for everyones benefit. Some just like cars, and particularly Mercedes, so they take an interest in the subject.

a few others come on here as a hope/last resort to get some help, find it pretty quick, and stay around giving back what they got!

and the others are like me, sad and lonley and have nothing better to do, so i give my time to help the site for free. now how sad is that?.

and we often get the trouble causers calling in for some fun too. but thats even sadder.
