Hi everyone, I trust you all had a good Xmas and new year!

I've had my Mercedes c class coupe for 3 weeks now and I'm loving it, although I did have a potential issue this morning . . . .

When I went to my frosty car this morning the wing mirrors were facing the wrong way, instead of being folded in they were folded out?!?! I thought they may have been moved by a prankster but in fact they had moved electrically, when I got in and started the car they didn't move, staying facing out, I pressed the button to fold them in and they did exactly that, all the way in, when I pressed the button again they folded back all the way out again! I ended up driving to work with my mirrors folded in and when I got here I tried the button again and this time, on the second press, they moved out to the normal position!

Does anyone know why this would happen and how I can stop it happening again?

?

The last position they ended up in, before you drove off, was folded out ?

So why did you drive to work with them folded in?

When they were out before I drove, they were facing out, as in the glass was facing away from the car, I decided I'd rather have the glass protected on the inside by having them facing in!

Sorry, I may have misunderstood you.

Are we talking about the mirrors folding in, or the actual glass adjustment?

The actual/entire mirror, not the adjustment! So normally when I go and unlock the car the folded mirror would move outwards to its usable position, this morning it was already in an unusable position and didn't move once I unlocked the car! It was like the mirrors had been bent backwards!

So they had folded past their normal point?

That's right. I assumed they had been moved manually by someone so I manually moved them back in, however they didn't click into position, so I moved them back and they clicked back but still past the normal point!

I would say that they have been vandalised and broken then!

Stance thing is, mine did exactly the same thing this morning. E coupe. I think it must be due to freezing moisture in the mechanism? Now fine.

I don't think they've been vandalised because by the time I got to work they returned to their regular and correct position and then when I locked the car they moved in as expected! I wondered if it was something to do with the cold weather and if they move automatically so they don't sieze up or something!

I'm glad I'm not alone on this one, it's just really confusing!!

No not vandals. Mine were tucked in all night, unlocked this morning and opened door they then unfolded way past the normal position. Same as you, all OK now??

Yeah I've just driven home from work and they operated as expected, it would be nice to know if this is a feature or a fault really?!

Im sure its a fault, possibly that it cant locate the position of the motor in the cold. What does the manual say?

Could the mirror just need to be set, they should go back to normal again if the mirrors are held, while the set set up again.

Haven't found anything of use in the manual, yet! The mirrors are now back to normal and have been ever since my journey to work, it was just the start of the day that caused the issue!

Is it me...or is this the most confused thread of the year so far?

You fold the mirrors out but drive to work with them folded in but they fold out when you press the button...???:confused:

School report...could try harder.

You are the only one confused... The mirrors actually mirrored themselves in the folding department. So folded back against the wings. or folded 180degrees as opposed to normal 90 degrees. So no confusion there.. unless you were a mirror or a looker on...
180 dgrees from the folded in position...Just in case...

You see...you've just added to my confusion.

OK...so how is that even possible? My mirrors cannot go further than straight out...except they are knocked...not driven by the motor.
