Wipers work but not on rain sensor/ intermittent setings?

Hi all,

Have searched through previous posts but not come across this?

I have a 2006 C200 CDi where the wipers work both with operating the washer when pushing fully down on the stalk, and with a single wipe when slightly pushing on the stalk, but nothing happens on turning the stalk through any of the interval settings.

Have checked fuses, taken the sensor cable out, checked bonnet down, doors shut, seat belt on, etc etc.

All the other stalk facilities work - indicators etc.

A recent fault as worked ok before.

Any thoughts?

its usually the stalk failing , swapped a couple on customers cars over the years

I guess that would be the next option, although I was hoping there might've been an easier/cheaper remedy lol. The car is 12 yrs old but has less than 70k on it, so wouldn't've thought it'd been worn out by over use?
