I think you're forgetting that they work long hours,
and it's difficult for them to make enough money for a newer Mercedes without saying fcuk all other road users.

It doesn't hurt to 'over drive'.
Can hurt like hell if they 'under drive'.
Just saying...

Taxis, Taxis, TAXIS have no consideration or even know what the indicators are for!

I am bound to agree - but not all taxi drivers, of course.

I am particularly wary on Motorways near airports when these "professionals" are speeding their prey to or from the airport.

Other drivers worth watching are:
  • Learners (be kind, give them a wide berth),
  • rental vans (often driven by non van drivers who are miles from home and lost),
  • courtesy cars from bodyshops (what did the driver do to their own car?),
  • brand new cars which the driver drives badly as they are terrified of damaging it and
  • certain car models - Honda Zazz seem to be the province of folks who drive slowly and move at random.

Alex.

And don't forget the BMW 3 Series and of course the one that has now come very close to the BMW, the Audi A3 !! :rolleyes:

Talking of airports, don't forget the folks leaving in rental cars from there, usually off a long flight and clueless about the car, location or anything really!

Going to get flamed for this but....... The recommendation is that cyclists when in a group actually ride 2-3 abreast.

The logic is that even when single file the car/truck has to cross the center line in most cases. So passing 5 cyclists in single file means you as a driver would be on the other side of the road for 10-15 metres. Whereas if they were 2-3 abreast you are only there for 3-5 metres.

Similar to the motorcycling tactic of riding on the white line, "dominating" the road. Even a single cyclist riding close to the kerb causes half mile queues during peak periods around here - effectively causing a rolling roadblock travelling at 12 to 15 mph.

I can only guess how impressed the motorists in the queue must be.

Suspect if there's enough traffic to cause a 1/2 mile queue then your journey wouldn't be much quicker than 15mph anyway. I've never seen more than just 2 or 3 cars waiting to overtake a cyclist.

Over here there are great mountains and countryside for cycling and drivers alike and the overhead gantries actually show useful stuff like explain rules regarding cyclists (rather than dumb stuff like "Don't drink and drive" and "THINK" in the middle of the motorway!). Not sure if it's the same rules over in UK but have learnt the following:

Cyclists can and should if possible ride 2 or 3 abreast;
1.5m is the minimum distance for passing a cyclist, minimum 200€ fine if not NO EXCEPTIONS so them riding single file requires you to go in the other lane anyway hence if they ride 2 abreast it's easier to pass;
You are allowed to cross a solid white line to overtake cyclist/cyclists if safe to do so;

Cycling in the city too the small roads all have pictures of cyclists on them to remind drivers cyclists can and should be in the centre of their lane (not next to park cars that can open their doors) and never had anyone get impatient with me.

All seems sensible and if a 38 ton truck can happily slow to 15mph behind a cyclist for a minute or two until there is a place to overtake with over 1.5m as they do then no excuse for car drivers not to do the same. Thing is people here realise for every cyclist in the city that's less congestion not more as the cyclists mostly have their own cycle lane and even then take up less space than a car.

Shame a lot in the UK can't see this and can't learn to share the road like people manage throughout the continent.

Never sit on the outside of a Left hand drive Lorry !

Never sit on the outside of ANY lorry (or car) for that matter would probably be wiser, amazing how many people sit on the blindspot of people. Always room to go a bit ahead clearly visible or just behind so you won't make contact if they swerve...

I think this applies generally in the UK and not just to cyclists.

Cars are driven by people with protection. Bikes are ridden by people without protection. Some of us are both.
There are idiot car drivers and idiot cyclists, but the cyclists are more vulnerable.

As life is precious, there is never a valid reason for a motorist to 'bully' a cyclist while driving.

Agreed, agreed, AGREED!

I know they have to earn a crust and it's harder with more licenses being issued and UBER on the scene.

However. It does not excuse their total disrespect for others. The park where they shouldn't (yes park not pick up/drop off) taking up the 2 or 3 they are allowed in the 'rank' and then another 4 or 5 dotted around taking up valuable parking spaces, some even on double yellow for half an hour. The U-turn without indicating and are happy to block a road to turn around rather than go 10m up the road and turn in a side street.

Not all are like this but the majority I have seen are. I give way to any driver, but not taxis. Screw them! And I saw this having had a Taxi license.

I don'ty know who the worst drivers are, but they always seem to be in front of me :)

Seriously though, I think the worst drivers are the ones that do something wrong but are totally unaware that they are in the wrong and will probably do the same thing tomorrow!
