shame about the Nissan engines
its a Nissan CAR. MB just put their own trim and grille/badge on them. I'm not a fan of the Navara and the last one (albeit the outgoing model which was known for being problematic) I was in, the engine sounded very 1980s with the amount of diesel clatter etc going on. prices aren't quite as high as I was expecting, but starting at over £30k (with VAT added on) id say slightly on the pricey side in base spec, for whats supposed to be a workhorse. list price for a base Ranger double cab is about £26k including VAT, I believe. whether a rebadged Nissan will find enough people who will pay the premium for the MB badge, time alone will tell, but if they do, I hope the Navara is a better truck than it used to be. and with a quieter engine. the Ranger has ALWAYS been better than the Navara in terms of engine noise and, by the accounts of people ive spoken to that USE them (NOT feedback from dealers etc, but actual USERS) theyre a much more reliable truck (prior to the new model being released) to the point that once the newer shape Rangers come down in price (the ones with 3x3 point seatbelts in the back) I might even consider one myself!

I know it is a re shelled Nissan, my point was no MB engines, VW just put a 3.0 V6TDi in the Amarok so will MB put a 350CDi in that???

I drive a '61 plate V6 Navara quite regularly and it is not bad with that engine

Nothing at all. The diesels tend towards clattering but they are quite robust.

I’ve spent a bit of time with the X Class. It’s about as much Nissan as the Infiniti’s are Mercedes- that is, it’s clearly a Navara platform and that’s where the similarities end. The interior is totally MB (pretty much C class transplanted). The NVH pack is pure MB. The drivetrain is pure MB. Styling wise it retains the Navara general shape but that’s about it.

so we have a navara shell and engine, an ML (or similar) gearbox and axles (with option of rear diff lock) engine/gearbox mounts modified from an ML (again, I'm guessing) and C class seats. not sure how the dash fits as I thought the Navaras were wider than the C class, but I'm sure theres been a bit of fettling and bodging to make it work. personally, I think theyd have been better off taking something like the GL and chopping the back off, for the simple fact that at least then it LOOKS like an MB product. like the little Citan van. its been out a while now and ive seen.....ONE. whether its price that's blown it out of the market compared to its competitors, or the fact that it looks like (and virtually IS) a Renault Kangoo, I don't know, but I feel that the same COULD happen with the X class. its almost too pricey to make it work like you would a hi-lux or a Ranger etc, and if it doesn't sell to the workers, I'm not sure who else would be interested in it. too plush and expensive to be a farmers/builders hack, not posh enough (or practical without a lockable bed cover/truckman top, in which case you may as well buy an ML type vehicle) for the 'Chelsea tractor' brigade, so I'm not sure where or to who this will sell.

that's EXACTLY the problem with Nissan diesels (most Japanese diesels, it seems as the last Toyota or Honda diesels I heard were the same) yes theyre robust BUT they remind me of the old early 80s Ford 1.6 diesel or the Peugeot 2.3 diesel (of the same era, also used by Ford) in the way they clatter!

I think MB will have a winner on their hands, the interior looks lovely and if they get car level refinement they will sell thousands, put a V6CDi in and I would have one and nice low BIK to boot.

It looks good

WTF will they do next.
Devalues the Marque. :(:(
A Mercedes without a Mercedes engine? God preserve us.

F**k me, soon one will be embarrassed to say you own a Mercedes ...

But I am sure the real CHAVS will lap it up. :(:(:(

Why not just by a Nissan or Toyota pickup.?

Sub,

Shut up. Please. The whining is getting a bit much.

The original A and current B classes have engine selections other than MB. So what?

MB have spotted a market gap in high end pickup trucks. They have never developed a pickup in modern times so do not have a platform. They do have a strategic relationship with Renault-Nissan (see Infiniti Q30) which has a line of highly successful mid sized pickups in the Navara range. So, the Navara H60 platform was chosen to base the new MB truck on.

As I understand it, the range will include the usual 2.2 and 3.0 engines in due course.

By the way, it’s a good looker, bit like a chunky C class.

I'm not sure badge engineering has devalued Mercedes' marque, I think they've done that themselves with the huge numbers of Mercedes on the road. When I was a kid, a Mercedes was a rare sight on the road because they were expensive. Now they're everywhere ..... even one on my drive  but not bought because of the 3 point star

Hmmm,
Not for me, looks like a burger overdose on the styling
Not a fan of pick-ups anyway, I’d rather a van or a car and this is neither - why would you put your stuff outside?

When my W204 gets too old I quite fancy leasing an Infiniti, they do a nice 3.5 hybrid in the Q50.

As far as I can tell this myth of MB specialness is just that. Bits on my 9 year old W204 are wearing out the same as any other car at that age.

There aint no MBs in this list...

Dont get me wrong, the badge is nice, and the drive is smooth, but let's not pretend it's not built to a price like any other car.

Please, the swear filter is there for a reason.

Arguably the marque started being devalued when the 190 was introduced...and continues.

One needs a reality check...E class taxis?

And some have Renault engines already.

So, you'll be jumping ship to BMW soon...and their forums?
