Sorry, phosphorus not zinc.

Wiki extract.

Rotella oils like T3 15w-40 meets both the API CJ-4 and SM specifications, and may be used in both gasoline and diesel engines. However, it is formulated specifically for vehicles without catalytic converters, containing phosphorus levels beyond the 600-800ppm range.[1] Therefore, Rotella is not recommended for gasoline vehicles with catalytic converters due to the higher risk of damaging these emission controls.[2] Newer formulations of Rotella T6 however are API SM rated as safe for pre-2011 gasoline vehicles.

Guess the T3 was very old tech. Is the T6 available in the required viscosity in UK? Rimula is probably the better bet anyway if available in suitable viscosity range.

I couldn't find anything for Rotella in the UK but the Rimula appears readily available. I'll check the available grades.

Thanks for you help.

Make sure the V Belt is not contaminated or worn out.
In fact remove it and see if the noise stops,
with the engine off spin pulleys and check for wear/noise.

:)

Thanks, but this noise is 100% from the oil filter housing.

I do have a rattling noise that I have not been able to narrow down which requires removing the belt.

To remove the belt, I have to remove the slam panel, and remove the fan, which has an oil pipe screwed into it from the bottom which invovles jacking it up, which is why I havent ended up doing it...

Funy thing is, all the belt train is new, new idler pulleys x 3 and new belt. Something on the train is making a whirring noise as well.

I thought it sounds slightly like tensioner wear

Ha, I'll probably just leave it. If it's not the oiling system I'm not that bothered.

So update, after ragging in on the dyno for a half a day, the noise has stopped.

Whether it was something in the oiling system or something on the drive train, its either gone quiet for good, or gone quiet as its about to fail :)

Either way, case closed for the moment.
