Dear Slk community i have joined your forum today in the quest for knowledge and would like to introduce my slk to you...

it was made in 2005 and is the 350 model ..and it has a air conditioning fault for which i have found to be well covered here on the forums but I still cant find an answer ,however I thought it worth asking as I think its possible all you slk owners would probably know something that could point me in the right direction, can you help ...please

So ..the air con isn't working ..

things I've done

Had the gas refilled and checked for leaks ..all fine

Checked all the related fuses in the engine compartment fuse box which i believe is the sam unit

I have taken power to the compressor direct and it works

Checked the multi function sensor in the battery compartment ( which is not there )..could this be the problem?

Had the car plugged in to a computer but no faults present

Thats as far as i have got and my conclusion is its either the front sam unit or the car needs to be plugged into a star system and reset

If anybody has any thoughts on this or think i have missed something i would love to know your thoughts

all the best

james

Needs to go on Star as a first step, unfortunately. SAM units do stop switching, but it isn’t very common. I had one a while back which hadn’t worked for ages. I regassed it. No codes but it still didn’t work. I could switch it on directly with Star and it ran cold, but still wouldn’t work on its own. I priced up a SAM and the customer rang me the next day. I expected a decision on the SAM, but to my surprise he said it had started working again. In for an MoT recently and still working. Worth a diagnostic at the very least.

Sams can be "fussy" sometimes, I've had issues with electric windows (all) not working and wipers, both have resolved after disconnecting and trickle charging the battery overnight.

Hi thanks for the replys
a long shot but would a weak battery cause such problems with the sam unit? and can any one recommend a good merc specialist to diagnose it

Worth checking but water ingress sounds highly likely given your issues
