That's "Sales & Marketing" for you. The specifications of the cars vary, as well as the performance, so it is not just a linear relationship based on bhp.

Pragmatically, it would be best to work out which car suits your ideal when choosing, rather than assume the most expensive one has to be best.

I believe in the real world the 500 gives as much power as you can sensibly and legally use on the roads of the UK. Beyond that you are getting into diminishing returns.

The more expensive cars come with a higher "pose factor" but at a much higher purchase price and the running costs (fuel, insurance, servicing, parts) are all rather higher.

But whilst there are people with more cash who would like something more special, there will always be a manufacturer to provide!

The SL600 is faster than the SL63 taking 4.5 seconds to 60 and the SL63 4.6 sec- the SL 65 will do it in 4.2 seconds, so you pay 80k more to gain 0.04 seconds, and you get nicer wheels with the AMG's

These cars are priced in accordance with their target market. The marketeers also impose snob value in so doing. Bentley did an interesting bit of market research with it's customers. The average GT client is worth 5M, the average Azure owner 25M. People in this league spend far more on far less. At a casino I was at the other night it was 30k just to sit at the table !!

A new RR Ghost needs 30k of extras to bring it up to an acceptable level. Crazy on a car listing at 175 based on a 7 series.
