Rosberg, convinced he can challenge for victory

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg both believe they missed clear chances to take pole for the Malaysian Grand Prix. Hamilton was quickest going into the closing stages of Q3, while Rosberg had been fastest of all in Q2.They ended up fourth and sixth on the grid respectively. While polesitter Sebastian Vettel pitted for fresh intermediates for a final shot at the top spot at the end, the Mercedes joined the majority in staying out through Q3 on one set of Pirellis. 'Putting new tyres on was definitely the way to go,' said Hamilton. 'Our strategy was to stay out, we thought it would dry up more and it work in our favour, but it didn't. I want to be on pole so initially when you get out of the car you don't think you're happy. But there are lots of positives to take out of yesterday and today so I'm excited about the race.' Rosberg was certain he had the pace to take pole had it stayed dry. 'I was feeling really comfortable in the dry,' he said. 'I was the fastest guy out there and had the best car. Then unfortunately the rain came, but still I thought 'OK, no problem, I can still go fast'. 'I just messed up the strategy, staying out there when others came in for a new set and I had damaged tyres.' The German is still convinced he can challenge for victory on Sunday.'I have a good car, especially once it's in the race, and as we saw in Melbourne, seventh place won the race, so it's still possible,' Rosberg said.

Kimi loses three positions for impeding Rosberg

Kimi Raikkonen will start Sunday's Malaysian GP from 10th place on the grid after he was penalised for impeding another driver. Contending with the rain that meant the cars were kicking up some serious spray behind them, Raikkonen reportedly baulked Nico Rosberg. The Australian GP winner went on to qualify in seventh place while Rosberg put his Mercedes up to sixth. However, after qualifying Raikkonen was summoned to the stewards were he was handed a three-place grid penalty for impeding the German. The Lotus driver will therefore begin round two of the Championship from 10th place on the grid.

Hamilton on the podium 3 and team mate 4 Rosberg

I bet Rosberg is not happy to be told slow down with a few laps to go
And webber to do the same with vettel after vettel was to not to pass him after last tyre change

Mercedes are doing ok two races in

Vettel has made no friends today and it will sting for a long time

Hamilton luckily got away with 'that' pit stop. Did make me chuckle though- thinking of Del Boy saying to Rodney.......'How can I put this? You don't live here no more':lol:

I think Webber did well not to punch Vettel's lights out!

Webbers body language spoke volumes .... Vettel lost all respect i had.... he had orders yet defied them..... whilst i am not a fan of team orders they are there and if MW was told to take things easy after the final tyre change and then had Vettel all over him it says more for the integrity of Webber that he didn't thump the beggar.

However if you heard the radio from Ross Brawn to Rosberg that was very clear and direct to stay behind Hamilton.... I wasnt sure the RB boys called it so cleanly beyond the call sign.. but to be fair Vettel knew exactly what he was doing .. no wonder Webber gave him the finger.....these people have a duty to the young kids who follow them to show real sportsmanship ..Vettel let the F1 world down today...

Can anyone tell me if the lotus/renault actually has anything to do with lotus, or are they just using the name?

Team Lotus, a sister company of Lotus Cars, competed in Formula One between 1958 and 1994, winning seven constructors' titles and six drivers' titles between 1963 and 1978. The Lotus name returned to Formula One in 2010 through Tony Fernandes's Lotus Racing team, which used the name on licence from Group Lotus. Group Lotus later terminated the licence, but Fernandes acquired the privately owned Team Lotus name and used it in the 2011 season. For 2012, Team Lotus changed their name to Caterham F1 Team, clearing the way for the Lotus Renault GP team to be renamed as "Lotus F1 Team".

I have already come across the wikipedia article but does not really answer what i was looking for, but thanks for looking.
Seems Lotus cars/engineering have nothing to do with F1.. and are owned by proton, who are also struggling and maybe going in with honda, who also have problems and possibly colaborating with lotus to help on the upcoming honda nsx..
Proton also assemble volkswagens !

Webber: 'Seb made his own decisions'

Mark Webber had been on course for the victory in Malaysia after taking the lead off Sebastian Vettel on lap seven when the German pitted. From there Webber maintained his advantage until the closing stages when Vettel caught up to him. Battling for the lead, it was vicious and at times dangerous as the two team-mates touched before Vettel, who had earlier called Webber "slow", muscled his way through. The reigning Champ went on to win the the grand prix by four seconds ahead of Webber, however, it was evident that all was not well as neither Christian Horner nor Adrian Newey, who was in the pre-podium room with his drivers, celebrated. The two drivers also barely looked at each other but had to stand shoulder-to-shoulder on the podium and were sent back out when everyone tried to leave before the podium interview. That was a frigid affair. Speaking after his team-mate, who wanted to discuss the situation in "private", Webber started by saying that the "first part of the grand prix went very well for us. "In the end we got the right strategy and after the last stop the team told me to turn the engine down." Then the gloves came off. Webber added: "Seb made his own decisions and will have protection as usual" which hinted at the times Red Bull's powers-that-be have jumped to Vettel's defence. "I turned my engine down and as we know he's a quick peddler."

F1 today showed them to be spoilt brats. Ok race until about lap 40 as it was all but sorted.

Sutil should drive for Mclaren
Kubica should be at Renault.. Lotus

Button a whinger
Perez is ****ter than me

F1 shows that Renault are the best at engine R&D in road cars (M9R/ R9M/ K4M etc)

Horner: 'Seb took it into his own hands to win the race'

Sebastian Vettel, who started on pole position, won the race win with his team-mate Mark Webber being "forced to settle" for second place. While Vettel will no doubt be happy to claim his first victory of the season and take the lead in the Championship, the post-race tension on the podium was clear for all to see as Webber felt he was robbed of the win. The Australian led the race and was told to turn down his engine with the team assuring him he would get the win while Vettel in turn was ordered not to attack. However, the German didn't listen to any orders and decided to go after Webber. The duo went side-by-side on the start-finish line with Vettel coming out on top. Webber was not very happy after the race saying "Seb made his own decisions and will have protection as usual". Team principal Christian Horner admits it didn't make for comfortable viewing on the side of the track. "They took it into their own hands, which was uncomfortable for us - we gave them instructions to hold station but Sebastian took it into his own hands to win the race - he wanted to win," he told Sky Sports. "They've raced each other hard before - they're very good drivers. There are points at stake and they both want to win. For the team it's hugely uncomfortable. "It's difficult when you have two competitive drivers like ours. It's difficult to watch because you could end up giving up 43 points. You have to remember there's two elements to F1 - there's a Drivers' Championship and a Constructors' Championship."

Hamilton: 'Nico should be standing here'

The 28-year-old claimed the final podium position at the Sepang International Circuit with Rosberg finishing not too far behind him in fourth place. However, the German wasn't too happy after the race as he was clearly quicker than Hamilton during the latter stages of the race, but the team ordered him to hold station until the chequered flag. He asked the team quite a few times if he could pass Hamilton, but the answer from team principal Ross Brawn was "negative Nico, negative" while after the race Rosberg was heard saying "I hope you remember this one". Hamilton admitted afterwards that Rosberg should've been the man on the podium. "The team did a fantastic job if I am honest I really feel Nico should be standing here, he had a better race than me," he said. "I can't say it's the best feeling being up here but racing is racing." Rosberg, meanwhile, was magnanimous after the dust had settled and didn't throw his toys out of the cot. "It's a team effort and I respected the team's opinion," said the German. "It was an important day. We've had such a tough time in past years, so to be third and fourth, and fighting the Red Bulls, is such a milestone. "For the team to want us to bring it home third and fourth is fully understandable and I know if it had been the other way around they would've done the same thing. "There will be times to fight between team-mates in the future."

Big fan of Vettel but he acted like a petulant kid today. Respect the apology but he now has to back it up with actions - Only gifting a race to Webber will show his words were sincere, although to be fair I think he has realised what he has done.

Yes but weber has gifted a lot of races to vettel in the past

To be honest weber had a great drive and if he was not told to turn his engine down he would have won in my mind

As with Hamilton he said from the get go that Rosberg should have been were he was I think after today weber will be out for blood on the track a few squeezes on vettel I have said it for a while get vettel in a pack and he's not a good racer weber is a racer went from 5 today to 2 in two corners
And my favourite move of all time was weber on Alonso at spa at 2011

Webber was by no means tough enough yesterday. He left Vettel too much room on turn 4 and should've hung him out on the exit. If I was him I'd've caused a collision deliberately. You have to draw the line between being a team player and a doormat.

Yes I agree I bet if vettel was in the same situation as webber yesterday he would have done a Schumacher on it and hit or drove webber off the track

Personally I think Vettel should by heavily fined and suspended by the team, certainly for the next race. This for deliberately ignoring team orders/instruction. He needs to recognise that F1 is in fact a Team sport, and being that it is, forms part of the T&C of the contract he signed up to. I’d be very surprised if there is a get out clause that says feel free to disregard all instructions from the pit, team boss, or engineer and put at risk, your team mate, or both valuable and expensive items of intellectual property, (in this case the cars), for personal glory and self gratification. The excuse that he was quicker than Webber is a pile of tut, given that Mark was told to turn his cars performance down, due to unknown tyre wear and reliability, (interesting SV was heard to say get him out the way I am much faster, precisely when Webber had just set the fastest lap of the race).

Sadly, Vettel is showing all the arrogant signs that I hated and despised about seven time World champion MS. A Brilliant talent, but a flawed character who didn’t understand the real ethos of sportsmanship, or fair play. His career has certainly not been without controversy, including being twice involved in collisions in the final race of a season that determined the outcome of the world championship, with Damon Hill in 1994 in Adelaide, and with Jacques Villeneuve in 1997 in Jerez. In both cases he drove into his nearest World Championship contender. In Adelaide (DH) that cost him the world title and thus enabled him (MS) to win it, and then tried the same stunt by clearly turning right, deliberately driving into the side of Jacques Villeneuve’s Williams in an effort to take him off the road, for that he and the team got heavily penalised with points deducted.

Sure there are some who go along with win at all cost approach, but does that make him a better driver? or person? I think not. In the fullness of time his name will always be followed up with the epitaph of “superb driver, audacious sublime talent.......But.
And therein lies the issue, he’s got where has because of (Step forward Mr A Newey for a start). By SV's action he demonstrated he didn’t care a inkers cuss about the people who gave him the chance or opportunity to get him where he is today. Such a shame.

A final thought how many of us would hold onto our jobs by deliberately ignoring instruction from our superiors, without getting a reprimand or written warning or even the sack. JMHO;)

I couldn't agree more its like he's spent too much time with Micheal Schumacher
Which we know he has

He could learn a thing or two from other drivers about respect and one day he two will be in a bad car a when that happens we will only then see how much of a driver he is

I myself had a little respect for him but not any more Rosberg will outshine him I think in years to come
