On the front of my CL500, two units mounted just below the licence plate each with 3 wires (red, white, black) going in?

I would go for the laser garage door opener, which incidentally is illegal to use when on the road as they have a tendency to interfere with Police Laser speed cameras. There will be a switch somewhere within the car I suspect.

Looks very like a garage door opener to me, you might also have one on the back to open the garage door when reversing into your garage...

Quite right, too! I asked earlier a question on how to get power for my radar detector (as the 'cigarette lighter' on the new E-class is hidden under a sliding cover), and half the replies were along the lines of "if you drove within speed limits you wouldn't need a detector" or something to that effect...

Update and **another pic**

Thanks for all the replies. I reckon it's a laser thing as suggested.

I traced the cable back to the fuse box where it connects (badly) to a red/yellow wire thru a 5 amp fuse. I've pulled the fuse to disconnect the units.

Does anyone know what the red/yellow cable connects to?

The cable bundle appears to then enter the cabin behind the dashboard but there are definitely no switches or additions of any kind visible.

There's also a dodgy looking 10 amp fuse with another cable going into the cabin and no obvious use for it. I might pull the fuse on that and see what happens.

On my 211 the 'garage door opener', kindly procured by the previous owner, has a tiny little toggle switch under the dash next to the bonnet release handle.

Allegedly. ;)

My 'gun' on the front is completely different. It actually looks like an automatic pistol has been wedged under the bumper!

Here's the toggle switch.

Thanks again, Corned.

I double checked and there's no sign of a switch of any kind. With the fuse out and no obvious ill effects I'm gonna just leave it as it is now.

Probably the best approach!

Maybe they're not what you think they are after all? If they were laser jammers, why would you need two? And surely you would want to control them, i.e. only switch them on at will, so there should be a switch within easy reach you would have thought.

I wonder if they are parking sensors?

There is no switch to my garage door opener.....it is permanently active and connected to my Origin B2 offering visual and audible warning whenever I am in the vicinity of a garage door.

My 'parking sensors' used to beep once when close to something. It also had a switch to allow you to turn it off.

The red wire will go to a switch somewhere, unless it's hard-wired to an ignition feed. In any case if it's all connected you should hear the self-test beep.
