Hi all,
After recently acquiring a 2003 S350 I'm finding that sometimes [and only sometimes] when locking it the indicators flash continually rather than the three times their supposed too, then unlocking and re locking the indicators flash three times as normal, only a little thing I know but still a little annoying. I had a look through the handbook to no avail. Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi hotgjc,

It sounds very much like to me as though your alarm system (located under the n/side front wheel arch liner near the passenger footwell) is in its infancy of imminent failure. Classic signs of the circuit board being contaminated by leakage from the internal NiMH battery. Unfortunately, like every type of secondary battery, they eventually deteriorate and leak over time, and in this instance, damaging the PCB within the alarm unit

You could possibly wait and see if it deteriorates any further or have it checked out by a competent auto electrician. I had my alarm unit replaced on my CL last year for very similar reasons – if unchanged, then over the subsequent coming months the alarm will start to go off on its own.

Best Regards,

My 2003 s320cdi does exactly the same. If the locking button is not pressed within a short time of all the doors being closed it goes into this optical alarm mode.

I have changed the siren and checked it using star but never got to the bottom of it.

I'm sure it is not supposed to be like that as it is annoying.

Hi, Would removing relay (P) for the horn, temporarily disable the horn and hence stop the flashing?

Not the horn, and nothing much to that circuit

Hi, If u replace the siren/horn, do u need a Star to configure the new one, or is it just a straight replacement?
