for those not watching, its the timing chain on the M47 engine, cars build date 2007 to 2009. The chain is at the flywheel end so its an engine out job

Same as the 272 merc engine when it eats its balance shaft engine out job......

you must know your going to get shot to pieces for that comment?

the use of chain was meant to be more reliable than rubber belt. as the more expensive chain is not unreliable, might as well use rubber belt

Cant say I recall seeing too many MB with a chain issue, sure there are some, but a very small percentage. Can the same be said for the belt option?

SLR... ;-)?

A new version was introduced in 2006, called the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition. The "722" refers to the victory by Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson in a Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR with the starting number 722 (indicating a start time of 7:22 a.m.) at the Mille Miglia in 1955.

When the crankshaft bearing went on my V6 320 cdi at 90000 miles MB paid half the cost. Warranty Direct the other half. That was a £3000 bill for a £7 bearing.
